Huawei's new foldable laptop has just been released, is it pleasing to the eye?

Huawei has officially launched the HUAWEI MateBook Fold Ultimate, a groundbreaking 18-inch foldable laptop that folds into the size of a 13-inch laptop. This is Huawei's next step in applying foldable screen technology to its laptop product line.

The MateBook Fold Ultimate runs the HarmonyOS PC operating system and supports multiple operating modes. The device can be opened at a 90-degree angle, displaying a virtual keyboard like a traditional laptop, or opened completely to take advantage of the 18-inch screen vertically or horizontally thanks to the built-in kickstand.

In addition to its flexible folding capabilities, the HUAWEI MateBook Fold Ultimate's dual-layer LTPO OLED display is also a notable highlight. The display has a 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded (resolution 3,296 x 2,472 pixels) and 3:2 when in laptop mode (2,472 x 1,648 pixels), a maximum brightness of 1,600 nits and a PWM frequency of 1,440Hz. The dual-layer structure saves 30% of power and triples the screen's lifespan. The display is protected by a non-Newtonian fluid and a carbon fiber support layer.

The HUAWEI MateBook Fold Ultimate comes in three colors with different textures. Notably, the wireless keyboard of this product also has color options corresponding to the machine. Inside, the machine is equipped with a 74.69Wh battery, two USB-C ports, 6 speakers and 4 microphones. Wireless connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. The product is sold with a keyboard, a carrying case, a charger and a 140W USB-C cable.

Weighing just 1.16 kg and measuring an impressive 14.9 mm when closed (7.3 mm when open), the HUAWEI MateBook Fold Ultimate represents the perfect combination of technology and design. According to GSMArena , Huawei has used an ultra-thin PCB and a three-layer aluminum structure to ensure the device's sturdiness and lightness. The cooling system includes a vapor chamber and two ultra-thin fans to cool the chipset. Detailed configuration parameters of the chipset have not been announced, however, the device will be equipped with 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB or 2 TB SSD options.

In addition to the virtual keyboard, Huawei also provides users with a 5mm ultra-thin wireless keyboard, 1.5mm key travel, made of aluminum alloy and weighing 290g, bringing the total weight when combined with the device to 1.45kg.

The detachable keyboard can last up to 24 days on a single charge. Users can also connect an external Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

The laptop also features a vapor chamber cooling system with two ultra-thin fans, which helps cool the chipset efficiently. While Huawei hasn't released CPU details, the MateBook Fold Ultimate will have 32GB of RAM and the option of a 1TB or 2TB SSD.

The MateBook Fold's hinge structure is also notable, as Huawei uses a basalt teardrop hinge described as " the world's largest." This is a three-stage hinge with a mortise and tenon structure, specially designed for foldable devices, allowing the screen to maintain an angle of 30° to 150°. The device also integrates a kickstand that allows users to use it horizontally without the need for additional accessories.

The HUAWEI MateBook Fold Ultimate is now available for pre-order on Vmall in China and will be available starting June 6. The 32GB/1TB version is priced at 24,000 yuan (about 86 million VND), while the 32GB/2TB version is priced at 27,000 yuan (about 97 million VND).

On the same day, Huawei also introduced the HUAWEI MateBook Pro, a 14.2-inch laptop with a 3:2 OLED display (3,120 x 2,080px), 24GB/32GB RAM, 512GB/1TB/2TB SSD, 70Wh battery and three USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 ports (supports up to 66W charging). The device weighs 970g, is 13.5mm thick and will be available from June 6 with a starting price of 8,000 yuan (about 28 million VND) for the 24GB/512GB version.
