Ho Chi Minh City - Ben Thanh Station of metro line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) when completed will be a highlight, marking a turning point for metro project 1, expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Ben Thanh Station is 236 m long, 60 m wide, about 32 m deep, consisting of 4 underground floors including: waiting hall, toll hall, entrance and exit, office, staff rest room, mechanical room, electrical room, ventilation fan room... The highlight of Ben Thanh underground station is the 6 m high, 21.6 m diameter skylight designed in the shape of a lotus flower. The skylight provides light for the lower part of the station. According to Mr. Ngo Quoc Kiet, Architectural Manager of Ben Thanh Station, the station is now more than 99% complete, the floors, walls, columns... have been completed and are in the process of repairing small errors and scratches. On the first floor of the station is where the underground shopping mall will be integrated with an area of about 45,000 m2 , including a commercial store area of 18,100 m2 , a corridor and an underground square of 21,500 m2 . On the 2nd floor will be where the train stops to pick up and drop off passengers. The contractor's team of engineers and workers are working urgently to complete the entire metro line 1 project by the end of the fourth quarter of this year. Outside are 6 underground station entrances, around Ben Thanh market and 23/9 park. Ben Thanh Central Station started construction in November 2016. This is a station with a particularly important location, a central location in the planning development of the Ho Chi Minh City metro system and later the station will be connected and intersected with other metro lines including lines 2, 3a and 4. Currently, the entire metro line 1 project has reached 95.84% progress. Specifically: Currently, CP1a package (underground section from Ben Thanh station to City Theater station) has reached 99.87%; CP1b package (underground section from City Theater station to Ba Son station) has reached 99.73%; CP2 package (elevated section and depot) has reached 97.73% and CP3 package (purchase of electromechanical equipment, locomotives, rails and maintenance) has reached 91.05% progress.
