Banks join hands to stabilize life and production after storms and floods

(GLO)- After the storm and flood, many banks in the province reviewed and considered debt restructuring and payment extension for customers affected by storms and floods. At the same time, they promoted the implementation of many preferential interest rate credit packages, creating conditions for people to access capital and quickly restore production and business.

After storm No. 13 swept through, the power grid infrastructure was severely damaged, causing widespread power outages, greatly affecting people's lives, activities, and business production. In response to this situation, BIDV Binh Dinh Branch has set up free battery charging points for people in areas with power outages, helping to maintain communication and ensure safety during the emergency.

At the same time, mobilize the Youth Union to transport and provide drinking water and essential necessities, support the army, police and workers on duty to overcome the consequences of the storm. On November 13, BIDV Binh Dinh Branch, on behalf of BIDV Vietnam, presented 2 billion VND to the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Gia Lai province to help the province overcome the consequences of storm No. 13.

The spirit of mutual love and support continued to be demonstrated by BIDV Binh Dinh Branch after the recent heavy rain and flood. In particular, BIDV Binh Dinh Branch coordinated with Gia Lai Newspaper, Radio and Television and many other units to go to the flooded areas to give more than 3,000 meals and drinks, 1,000 sets of clothes, 500 warm blankets and many other essential necessities to people with a total estimated value of 200 million VND.

In addition, BIDV Binh Dinh Branch also supported 500 million VND in cash for people and students in the wards and communes of Quy Nhon, Quy Nhon Dong, Quy Nhon Nam, Cat Tien, Tuy Phuoc Bac.

The calculation of support for customers affected by storms and floods is also of special concern to BIDV Binh Dinh Branch. Deputy Director of BIDV Binh Dinh Branch Van Minh Hoang said: There are 70 customers who are organizations, businesses and 13 individual customers affected by storms and floods with outstanding debt at the bank of about 4,800 billion VND.

As soon as we determine the specific damage figures, we will immediately deploy support solutions for each customer, such as: Restructuring the repayment period for both principal and interest; waiving or reducing interest and waiving or reducing service fees.

In addition, the Bank has been implementing loans to overcome the consequences of storms and floods by reducing lending interest rates from the credit package of VND 20,000 billion, including VND 10,000 billion for existing outstanding loans and VND 10,000 billion for new loans, with a maximum interest rate reduction of 0.5-2%/year but not lower than the lending floor; the support period is until the end of February 2026. The Bank is committed to simplifying procedures and creating the most favorable conditions for people and businesses to access and borrow capital from this credit package.

Restructuring debt repayment terms, exemption and reduction of interest and fees

BIDV Phu Tai Branch and Vietcombank Binh Dinh Branch also have many practical activities to support people and businesses affected by storms and floods. Vietcombank Binh Dinh Branch alone has donated 100 million VND through the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province to support people to overcome the damage caused by storm No. 13.

On November 28, the Bank continued to support 200 million VND in cash to the wards of Quy Nhon Dong, Quy Nhon and Tuy Phuoc Dong commune to overcome the consequences of floods.

Vietcombank Binh Dinh Branch has also identified about 110 customers, mainly corporate customers with outstanding debts of VND3,720 billion, who suffered damage due to storms and floods. Mr. Nguyen Van Thuy, Director of Vietcombank Binh Dinh Branch, affirmed: The bank will restructure debt repayment terms and waive or reduce interest and fees for customers; at the same time, build and implement credit programs and packages with interest rates lower than normal lending rates to restore production and business.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Huu Cau, Director of Agribank Binh Dinh Branch, said that there are 940 customers who are businesses and households borrowing capital affected by the storm with a total outstanding debt of 2,780 billion VND, of which the outstanding debt due to damage is estimated at about 1,554 billion VND. The branch has organized visits and gifts for people and is continuing to count the damage caused by storms of households borrowing capital, reporting to the head office to request support mechanisms.

At the same time, continue to apply preferential credit programs by reducing current loan interest rates by a maximum of 1%/year; excluding late payment interest and adjusting overdue interest rates by 100% of the loan interest rate within 3 months (from November 19, 2025 to February 18, 2026) for customers affected by storms and floods.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Cau, currently Agribank Binh Dinh Branch is implementing many credit packages with competitive interest rates, in which the most prominent is the medium and long-term loan program for individual customers to buy houses; receive land use rights transfer; build, repair, renovate and complete houses.

This credit package has a scale of 10,000 billion VND, with an interest rate of 5.5% fixed for the first 6 months, applied to a minimum loan term of 18 months; an interest rate of 6.2% fixed for 12 months, applied to a minimum loan term of 36 months; an interest rate of 6.3%/year fixed for 18 months, applied to a minimum loan term of 60 months...
