Education sector launches competition for innovation in digital transformation

On August 7, the Ministry of Education and Training held a conference to launch the emulation movement "The whole country competes in innovation and digital transformation" and "Digital education for all" in the education sector. The conference was connected from the main bridge at the Ministry of Education and Training to 600 bridges of the Departments of Education and Training; higher education institutions, vocational education, and general education nationwide.

Speaking at the launch of the emulation movement, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc shared: Digital transformation is no longer an option but has become an inevitable requirement, an irreversible trend, determining the country's competitiveness and sustainable development.

In particular, in the field of education , digital transformation opens up unprecedented opportunities to improve the quality of teaching and learning, innovate educational methods, personalize learning pathways, and expand access to knowledge for all people.

In recent times, the education and training sector has implemented this important task and achieved some outstanding results such as: Building and exploiting the database of the entire sector; from there, deploying application platforms serving state management, school administration, teaching, testing, shared online assessment, shared digital learning materials warehouse, providing online public services, cashless payments and developing digital capacity in the entire sector.

However, according to Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc, the education and training sector still has difficulties that need to be resolved in the coming time to successfully complete the set goals such as: network infrastructure, internet transmission equipment is still lacking; resource mobilization for digital transformation is still limited; digital capacity is uneven; the sector-wide database needs to be continuously updated...

To make the emulation movement most effective, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc called on Party committees and local authorities at all levels to continue to pay attention, closely direct, and create all favorable conditions in terms of mechanisms, policies, and resources so that the movements can be deployed widely and effectively.

Departments of Education and Training and educational institutions proactively develop specific action plans and programs suitable to the practical conditions of the unit and locality, promoting the spirit of innovation, creativity, daring to think, daring to do, and daring to take responsibility.

Each staff and teacher is a pioneer in learning and applying digital technology to work and teaching; at the same time, they are active in spreading digital knowledge and skills to the community.

Each student proactively learns and practices digital skills, becomes a model, responsible digital citizen; actively participates in volunteer activities, and guides relatives and the community about digital skills.

Spreading the motivation for innovation

At the conference, representatives of the Departments of Education and Training, universities, vocational education, and general education institutions exchanged and shared experiences, initiatives, practical solutions, and expressed their determination to spread the motivation for innovation and digital transformation to every teacher, student, and citizen.

Dr. Pham Huy Hoang - Director of the Center for Technology and Digital Transformation Solutions in Education, School of Information Technology and Communications, Hanoi University of Science and Technology shared: Currently, social activities are gradually moving to the digital space such as online public services, commerce, and banking.

Therefore, people need to be proactive in digital space, society needs human resources to develop and exploit digital space. Digital literacy is launched to spread knowledge to the community, supporting people in digital space.

Ms. Truong Hai Thanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that in the digital era developing at an extraordinary speed, data, connection and technology have become the operating foundation of socio-economic life. Each student is not only a learner, but has become a true digital citizen - a subject directly participating, interacting and influencing in the online environment with full rights, obligations and responsibilities.

Faced with such an urgent need, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has clearly identified that educating digital citizenship skills for students, especially from primary school level, is not only an immediate and necessary task, but also a long-term strategic orientation.

Digital citizenship skills cannot stop at the level of integrated support, but need to be recognized as a core foundation of modern education, implemented systematically, flexibly and interoperably, in parallel with the development of learning capacity, life skills and civic qualities, in order to form a generation of proactive, brave, humane and safe students in the digital world.

Dr. Pham Xuan Khanh - Principal of Hanoi College of Technology - said: In recent years, the school has organized many activities on Digital Transformation and administrative reform in management and operation such as: Organizing seminars on digital transformation, science and technology and innovation.

At the same time, train and develop teachers to improve their English skills, digital transformation, AI, GPT CHAT, virtual reality skills, and augmented reality. Therefore, the working capacity of staff and teachers is constantly improving with 100% of staff and teachers being able to use AI and GPT chat in their work.

The school has also actively responded to the digital literacy movement such as: Training lecturers and experts; supporting digital capacity building for ward and commune officials; supporting digital capacity building for high school teachers; coordinating with departments and branches to organize training courses; organizing propaganda, guidance, and training on digital capacity for students.

Ms. Hoang Thu Ha - Principal of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted (Hanoi) said: Digital transformation in education is not only an inevitable trend but also an important driving force for fundamental and comprehensive innovation in teaching and learning activities, school management and strengthening connections between teachers, students and parents.

The application of digital technology in educational activities contributes to improving the quality of teaching, developing digital capacity for learners and optimizing management and operation processes in schools. Digital transformation in the education sector is also identified as one of the important pillars in the national digital transformation strategy.

Implementing the Plan of the Ministry of Education and Training on the implementation of the emulation movement "The whole country competes in innovation and digital transformation" and "Digital education for all", Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted is always aware of its pioneering responsibility in innovation, creativity and application of digital technology in teaching and management.

“We identify that digital transformation is not only the application of digital tools but also a revolution in thinking, teaching and learning methods, aiming to improve the quality of education and foster a generation of students with the capacity to master the future,” said Ms. Ha.
