The tank units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are in a difficult situation due to the prolonged combat operations. In response, the Netherlands and Denmark have decided to transfer 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv. The Dutch Defense Minister noted that these tanks will be delivered to Kyiv before the end of the summer. This emphasizes the urgency of the situation.
The status of tank units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Since the beginning of the conflict, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have suffered serious tank losses. According to Lostarmour.info, at least 27 Leopard 2A4 and 2A6 tanks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been destroyed so far. European sources, such as the independent Dutch project Oryx Spioen Kop, confirm these figures and indicate even more serious losses. According to them, at least 33 Leopard tanks of various types and 7 Swedish Stridsvagn 122 tanks (designed on the basis of Leopard 2) have been destroyed.

Most of these losses occurred during the "counterattacks" of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Zaporozhye. The settlements of Rabotino and Malaya Tokmachka became "graveyards" of NATO tanks. Several other tanks were destroyed during the offensive in the Avdeevsko-Pokrovsky direction. These data show how fierce and destructive the fighting was for Ukrainian tank units.
Supplying and repairing tanks is a difficult problem.
The transfer of the Leopard tanks has been fraught with problems. The tanks that arrived in Ukraine underwent inspections and overhauls, but their condition was far from ideal. Many tanks needed repair due to long storage and wear and tear. The Leopard 1s, for example, were taken from Cold War storage tanks, and overhauling and repairing them to make them operational required a lot of time and effort.

Ukraine once refused to accept 10 Leopard 1 tanks when they were delivered in an unusable condition. Ukrainian specialists did not know how to repair them due to lack of skills and necessary spare parts.
Due to these problems, Ukrainian soldiers used Leopard 2 not as main combat vehicles, but as long-range artillery. This shows that in real combat conditions, Leopard 2 tanks did not bring the expected benefits.
Not only Leopard 2 tanks, Russia's continuous deployment of missile and drone attacks on military targets caused the Ukrainian Armed Forces to lose many types of equipment.
According to information published by SF on July 28, the Russian military's Lancet suicide drones damaged or destroyed 37 pieces of equipment of the Kyiv forces between July 14 and 20. They included: 3 self-propelled guns, including 2 M109s made in the US; a self-propelled mortar, the M120 Rak made in Poland; 22 towed guns, including 7 M777s made in the US, 2 M198s and 3 FH-70s made in the UK-Italy; a multiple rocket launcher, the BM-21 Grad made in the Soviet Union; 5 main battle tanks, including a Leopard-1 made in Germany and an Abrams made in the US; an air defense system, the Strela-10 made in the Soviet Union; a radar; 3 intelligence gathering and electronic warfare systems.
