On December 11, in Hanoi, the Academy of Journalism and Communication organized an international scientific conference with the theme: “Research and teaching Marxism-Leninism in universities: Experiences of Vietnam and China”. Attending the conference were leaders of central and local departments, ministries, and branches; scientists and political theory lecturers from universities in Vietnam and China.

In his opening speech, Professor, Dr. Le Van Loi, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, emphasized: Marxism-Leninism is the most revolutionary and scientific doctrine because it has equipped the proletariat, the working people and oppressed peoples in the world with sharp ideological and theoretical weapons to fight for the noble goal of humanity, which is to abolish the oppressive regime of the bourgeoisie and move forward to build a new society - Socialism and Communism.

In Vietnam and China, currently, studying and teaching Marxism-Leninism has become one of the top tasks of the two countries, focusing on correctly understanding and applying the theory of Marxism-Leninism in accordance with the country's reality, aiming at the highest goal: for Vietnam, it is to build a socialist society with a rich people, a strong country, democracy, fairness, civilization, and the people as masters; for China, it is to become a modern socialist country in all aspects through the path of modernization.

Continuing to promote research, development and clarification of revolutionary, scientific issues, correctness and influence, as well as improving the quality of research and teaching of Marxism-Leninism is very important, both an inevitable objective requirement of the times and an extremely important political task of the entire Party and the entire political system. The two Parties and the two countries pay great attention and devote many resources and policies to promoting research and teaching of Marxism-Leninism in universities. These are the vibrant “nursery” of Marxist-Leninist theoretical science, always pioneering in protecting and disseminating the Marxist-Leninist ideological foundation, as well as taking on the great responsibility of training and nurturing the future generation who will continue to build the socialist cause, said Professor, Dr. Le Van Loi.

The introductory report presented by Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Minh Son, Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication, stated that the practice of teaching political theory subjects in general and Marxism-Leninism in particular at universities in Vietnam and China in recent times has had positive changes; the quality of teaching political theory subjects has been constantly improved, contributing significantly to improving the quality ofeducation and training.

The team of political theory cadres and lecturers is arranged and organized in accordance with practical requirements; has the qualities and capacity to basically meet the general requirements and tasks in training work, the quality of the teaching staff is gradually standardized...

However, the research and teaching of Marxism-Leninism in universities in Vietnam and China currently still have some shortcomings and limitations such as: the awareness of the significance and necessity of innovation, improvement of quality, effectiveness of learning, research, application and development of Marxism-Leninism in the new situation of Party committees, Party organizations, university leaders and teaching units is not really adequate; scientific research on Marxism-Leninism is not deep, not keeping up with the changing situation of the world, the region and the country and the requirements of practical theoretical work; there are gaps and contradictions between theory and practice in teaching Marxism-Leninism at university level; the content of the curriculum and textbooks is still repetitive, heavy on theory, little practical...

Along with that, the current context of globalization and deep international integration continues to pose many challenges, difficulties and complications for the research and teaching of Marxism-Leninism, such as fierce opposition of hostile and reactionary forces to Marxism-Leninism; indulgent lifestyle, fading ideals, enjoyment, indifference to the country's political and social issues...

With 85 presentations, the opinions of delegates and scientists were analyzed and interpreted, thereby affirming that Marxism-Leninism is not only the ideology of the two countries but also a scientific and revolutionary doctrine in human history. The opinions also focused on analyzing and objectively evaluating the current situation in the research and teaching of Marxism-Leninism in universities in Vietnam and China today.

In his closing speech, Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Duc Ngoc, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council, Academy of Journalism and Communication, said that with many different approaches, the opinions and articles of scientists provided useful scientific arguments, contributing to solving the problems arising in improving the quality of research and teaching of Marxism-Leninism at universities in Vietnam and China. Many good models, profound lessons, valuable proposals and solutions presented at the Workshop will be the basis for the Academy of Journalism and Communication to make recommendations to the Party and State, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and management agencies in leading and directing the research and teaching of Marxism-Leninism at universities in the coming time./.
