The signing of the Geneva Agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Vietnam was an important milestone in the long and difficult struggle of the people of the three Indochinese countries to gain peace and independence for the Fatherland.

The signing of the Agreement was a great victory, when the French colonialists and the countries participating in the Geneva Conference for the first time pledged to respect the independence, sovereignty , unity and territorial integrity, and not to interfere in the internal affairs of the three Indochinese countries.

At the same time, the signing of the Agreement also clearly demonstrated the noble patriotism and correct revolutionary struggle line of the Indochinese Communist Party led by President Ho Chi Minh .

Before 1954, the French colonialists carried out many forms of repression to suppress the national liberation movement in the three Indochinese countries, causing many cadres, soldiers and people to sacrifice.

The struggle against the French colonialists in the three Indochinese countries was extremely arduous, but resilient and gradually achieved victory, with the important mark being the Dien Bien Phu Victory on May 7, 1954 of Vietnam. The Dien Bien Phu Victory forced the French colonialists to lay down their weapons and accept to sit at the negotiating table at the Geneva Conference.

The lessons of negotiation at the Geneva Conference and the Dien Bien Phu Victory became the guiding torch, leading the struggle movement to completely liberate the three Indochinese countries. 70 years have passed, but the value and lessons from the signing of the Geneva Agreement still retain their value for the cause of protecting, building and developing the country in Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.

The current regional and world situation continues to be unstable, with complex and unpredictable developments, creating many challenges for security and development in countries around the world, including Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.

We fought together against the French colonialists in the past. Now we will continue to further strengthen our cooperative relationship, support and help each other in the cause of national defense and development, while making an important contribution to promoting peace and development in the world.

The 70th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Vietnam is an event of great historical significance for us to remember the resistance period and the steadfast examples of the heroes of the Vietnamese liberation army who fought to regain independence from the colonial regime.

During the period when the independence movement was taking place vigorously throughout Indochina, the three countries of Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos united and fought side by side for the independence and freedom of the country.

That effort led to the signing of the Geneva Agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Indochina with three agreements on the cessation of hostilities in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.

The Geneva Conference issued a final statement affirming respect for the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, and non-interference in the internal affairs of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. This was an important step towards restoring peace in the region.

After signing the Geneva Agreement, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos continued to face unpredictable challenges. However, the three countries stood side by side and helped each other in the cause of unification, nation building and socio-economic development.

Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos are close neighbors with a tradition of solidarity and mutual assistance. Today, our three countries have turned a new page, confidently moving forward together, making positive contributions to maintaining peace, stability, prosperity and international cooperation, as well as economic development in the region and globally.
