Mud and garbage litter many streets in Yen Bai

TPO - After the circulation of storm No. 3, some places in Yen Bai city (Yen Bai province) are still littered with garbage and mud, many families cannot return home due to the risk of landslides.

Yen Bai is one of the provinces that suffered heavy damage caused by storm No. 3. Estimated damage is up to nearly 6,000 billion VND.

It has been a month since Yen Bai city was submerged in water. Many streets, houses, shops... are still littered with garbage and mud.

Along Dien Bien road, Yen Bai city, the repair work is still being urgently deployed by units. This is the landslide location that caused 17 houses to collapse, more than 40 houses had to evacuate people and property to ensure safety.

The scene left behind a pile of rubble, collapsed houses, buried and damaged vehicles, and the reconstruction of people's lives is still extremely difficult.

On Cao Thang Street, Group 5, Yen Ninh Ward, high slopes are cracking and eroding, threatening the lives of households living along both sides of the road. For the past month, more than 30 households have had to take shelter in many places, waiting for the leveling and treatment of landslide-prone areas so they can return home.

Ms. Hoang Thi Quynh (in group 5, Yen Ninh ward) confided that the flood had damaged everything, and now landslides have engulfed everything. The whole family has to stay with someone else, sleep on chairs, cook and eat on the spot, everything is makeshift.

The family borrowed money from everywhere, mortgaged the bank to rent machinery to level the land behind the hill, just hoping to finish soon so they can go home to repair the house, Ms. Quynh added.

Yen Ninh Street, Yen Ninh Ward, the area from the martyrs' cemetery to Nam Cuong intersection, many rows of houses must be relocated due to high risk of landslides.

At Thanh Nien Street, Hong Ha Ward - the flood center of Yen Bai City, households are still cleaning their houses, mud is piled up in front of their houses, drains are being opened to clear them, the road is full of ditches and puddles that are being dug up to dredge the sludge.

Along the branch roads and embankments of the Red River in Hong Ha ward, mud and soil are still piled up, many houses are closed and the mud and soil cannot be dredged.

According to statistics from the functional sectors of Yen Bai province, there are currently more than 5,000 landslides in the area. After the storm and flood, Yen Bai people are facing the risk of landslides. The reconstruction and stabilization of people's lives are being given top priority by local authorities.
