The cultural identity of a nation is a collection of unique and distinctive cultural values, formed and developed over the course of history, including language, beliefs, customs, lifestyle, costumes, folk songs, etc.
Soong Co folk songs are a unique and characteristic cultural feature of the San Diu ethnic group. However, over time and the impact of the market economy , the number of people who know how to sing Soong Co folk songs is very small. Therefore, as an artist, Ms. Tran Thi Nam is concerned and troubled about preserving, conserving and developing Soong Co melodies among her people.
In 2013, the Trung Mau Village Soong Co Club was established. Since then, Ms. Nam and the Club members have devoted themselves to preserving the cultural identity of the San Diu people. The Club has taught hundreds of students how to sing Soong Co, read and write San Diu language in a form suitable for each subject.
According to Ms. Nam, due to the development trend of society and the impact of modern cultural factors, the communication language and Soong Co melodies are no longer commonly used in the daily lives of the people.
Wishing that the ethnic cultural identity would not be lost, Ms. Nam and the members of the Club regularly propagate and encourage each family to let their children participate in singing classes and learn the San Diu ethnic language on weekends and summer vacations, and receive the consent of the majority of local people.
Many classes on teaching Soong Co language, writing, and folk songs were organized, attracting a large number of San Diu ethnic people inside and outside the province to participate.
Ms. Nam believes that: Teachers need to have the skills to compile, build lesson plans and teach appropriately, without affecting the general education program of children. From there, Ms. Nam has researched, collected and compiled books to teach San Diu ethnic culture to popularize to her people such as the songs of the Sen Co and composed new lyrics of love songs; collected and composed San Diu folk songs; translated books and instructions on San Diu ethnic language...
The Trung Mau Village Soong Co Club maintains its activities on the 15th of every month, so the Soong Co folk songs are promoted and often used in production work, lullabies, New Year greetings, festivals, weddings, etc.
Ms. Nam also regularly connects with Soong Co Clubs in many provinces and cities such as Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Tuyen Quang, and Hanoi city so that members have the opportunity to exchange and share experiences about folk songs, ways to preserve national cultural identity, and participate in performances on holidays, Tet, and local cultural activities. Thereby, the Club has achieved achievements in preserving, maintaining and developing Soong Co melodies as well as the cultural identity of the San Diu ethnic group.
Comrade Truong Quang Vinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Trung My commune, said: Preserving and conserving the customs, habits and cultural identities of ethnic groups is the responsibility of the entire Party and the entire people. In particular, Meritorious Artist Tran Thi Nam has played an important role in preserving and promoting the cultural values of writing, language and folk songs of the San Diu people in the locality.
Not only preserving unique cultural values, Ms. Nam has created Soong Co melodies that are closely linked to the flow of society, praising the Party, Uncle Ho, love for the homeland and country... From there, she encourages people to properly implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws, compete in labor production, and build a prosperous and happy family.
The locality will continue to support artisans and clubs to teach cultural forms, including the voice and folk songs of the San Diu people. Timely commend and encourage individuals who are dedicated and devoted to promoting the values of national identity to the community...
