(Dan Tri) - Working with the authorities, the cyclo driver in Nha Trang city (Khanh Hoa province) who snatched money from a female tourist explained the inside story of the incident.

On the morning of June 2, Mr. Le Quang Nhat, Vice President of the Nha Trang City Labor Federation and President of the Nha Trang Cyclo Union, said that he is asking the cyclo driver who snatched money from a female tourist to write a report and self-criticism to have a basis for handling according to regulations.

Mr. Nhat informed that through the initial inspection results, it was determined that the cyclo driver had committed an offensive act, affecting the tourism image of Nha Trang city, so the union will resolutely handle it seriously.

The Chairman of the Nha Trang Cyclo Union also said that, through investigation, the cyclo driver in the incident stated that before making the cyclo trip of more than 1.5km from 1 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai to 98 Tran Phu (Nha Trang city), he was informed that the price to pay was 50,000 VND.

However, when she arrived, the female tourist only paid 5,000 VND, which was later increased to 35,000 VND. Because she was in a hurry, the cyclo driver had an offensive action of snatching the money.

According to Mr. Nhat, the unit is considering several forms of handling to remove this person from the Nha Trang Cyclo Union and revoke the union membership card.

The Chairman of the Nha Trang Cyclo Union also said that recently the union has made efforts to connect with units to coordinate propaganda on rules of conduct with tourists; organize propaganda classes on traffic safety, avoiding social evils, learning foreign languages, etc.

However, there are still cases of non-compliance, affecting the image of the majority of union members who perform well.

"For union members who violate the law, we are determined not to cover up or condone it," Mr. Nhat shared.

Mr. Nhat informed that in the coming time, the union will increase propaganda, training, andeducation to build Nha Trang cyclo tourism activities into an orderly and professional manner.

Previously, on the afternoon of May 31, on Facebook, content was spread that a cyclo driver had behaved in an uncivilized manner towards a female tourist, affecting the image of Nha Trang tourism.

The content is accompanied by a nearly 30-second clip, recording the scene of a cyclo driver carrying a foreign female tourist and a little girl. When arriving at the destination, the female tourist hands over some money, after which a conflict and argument breaks out between the cyclo driver and the customer.

During the argument, the man snatched the money from the female tourist’s hand. Seeing the cyclo driver acting aggressively, the female tourist quickly took the girl’s hand and left.

In the comments section of the clip, many people said that the cyclo driver had behaved inappropriately towards the tourists. Many suggested that the local authorities intervene to rectify the situation.

Previously, in Nha Trang city, there were many cases of tourists being assaulted and charged unreasonable fees. Upon receiving the complaints, the city's authorities have stepped in to clarify and handle the cases according to regulations.
