(Fatherland) - On the afternoon of May 1, at Hoan Kiem Lake area (Hanoi), the People's Army Newspaper (QĐND) coordinated with the Vietnam Bicycle and Motor Sports Federation to organize the opening ceremony of the "Back to Dien Bien Phu-2024, People's Army Newspaper Cup" bicycle race.

After many days of waiting, the cycling race "Back to Dien Bien Phu - 2024, People's Army Newspaper Cup" officially opened and competed in the first stage around Hoan Kiem Lake ( Hanoi ) this afternoon (May 1). The race was highly appreciated for its expertise when it gathered 70 of the strongest cyclists in Vietnam.

The racing teams compete in stage 1 at 3:00 p.m. with a route of 24 laps around Hoan Kiem Lake (40.8km).

The cycling race "Returning to Dien Bien Phu - 2024, People's Army Newspaper Cup" gathered 70 excellent athletes from 10 racing teams, including: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Military Region 7, An Giang, Dong Thap, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Vinh Long, Thanh Hoa, Hoa Binh.

The racers compete on a route of more than 500km, from the capital Hanoi to Dien Bien Phu city.

Stage 1: "Thang Long - a thousand years of civilization" with a distance of 40.8km, 24 laps around Hoan Kiem Lake.

During the race, many social security and gratitude activities will be carried out by the Organizing Committee in coordination with accompanying units and local authorities for the policy activities of "Repaying gratitude" including 12 gratitude houses (2 houses in Dien Bien province worth 80 million VND/house and 10 houses in Nghe An province worth 50 million VND/house); building 1 school worth about 6.5 billion VND in Dien Bien province; donating 30 sanitation works to schools worth 60 million VND/work in Hoa Binh, Son La, Lai Chau provinces; giving gifts to policy beneficiaries in Hanoi, Hoa Binh, Son La, each province and city with 20 gifts; 200 gifts to policy families in Dien Bien Phu city, worth 500,000 VND/gift; and 127 gifts for veterans, youth volunteers, and frontline laborers participating in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign living in Dien Bien province, each worth 2 million VND. The total estimated budget for social security activities is nearly 10 billion VND.

The bicycle race "Back to Dien Bien Phu - People's Army Newspaper Cup" is one of the activities that the People's Army Newspaper has coordinated with the Vietnam Bicycle - Motor Sports Federation many times.

The athletes continuously competed with each other in every meter amid the cheers of the capital's residents and tourists.

The racing teams continuously accelerated, putting pressure on the athletes, forcing them to give up early.

The organizers hope that the race will be an opportunity for the People's Army Newspaper, accompanying units and all forces participating in the race to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs who contributed to the "famous Dien Bien, earth-shaking victory", and the veterans who participated in the historic Dien Bien Phu Campaign.

Taking place from May 1 to 5, the "Back to Dien Bien Phu-2024, People's Army Newspaper Cup" bicycle race will compete on a total route of more than 500km from Hanoi to Dien Bien Phu City.

Each race stage is a chapter reviewing the heroic tradition, including 5 stages: "Thang Long - a thousand years of culture" (racing around Hoan Kiem Lake - Hanoi), "The whole army launches an attack" (Hanoi - Mai Chau, Hoa Binh), "Opening the way to the Northwest" (Van Ho, Son La - Son La City), "Advancing to Muong Thanh" (Son La City - Dien Bien Phu City), "Song of Victory" (racing around Dien Bien Phu City).

Tomorrow, the athletes will continue Stage 2: "The whole army attacks" with a distance of 132km, from Hanoi to Mai Chau (Hoa Binh).
