People voluntarily handed over rare loris to authorities

(PLVN) - A resident in Ha Tinh voluntarily handed over a rare wild loris belonging to group IB to the Thach Ha district Forest Protection Department to release it back into the natural forest environment.

On May 7, information from Thach Ha Forest Protection Department, Mr. Nguyen Cong Thang (Son Ha village, Thach Son commune, Thach Ha, Ha Tinh ) just handed over a rare wild loris weighing 2kg to the local authorities, Thach Ha District Forest Protection Department.

It is known that this loris was discovered by Mr. Thang in his garden. This is a rare wild animal that needs protection, Mr. Thang captured it and handed it over to the authorities.

After receiving the loris from the authorities, Vu Quang National Park continued to care for it to ensure its health, then released it back into the natural environment.

The pygmy loris is one of two species in the loris family (Loricidae) in group IB (list of endangered and rare animals) in Vietnam. They live in many different types of forests, forage at night, and often live alone or in groups of 3-4.

In the world and in Vietnam, the loris is classified as an endangered, rare animal species, and exploitation and use for commercial purposes are strictly prohibited.
