In recent days, rumors have been circulating on Chinese social media about a trick to speed up iPhone data transfer by simply placing the phone in a rice cooker. This information quickly became a controversial topic, forcing Apple to respond.

According to Fast Technology , Apple's customer service department has completely rejected the above method. The company asserted that data transmission between two iPhone devices does not involve external Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, so there is no need to do it in a closed space like a rice cooker.

This strange trend originated from a rather unexpected situation. On the social network Weibo, actor William Chan (Tran Vy Dinh) posted an advertisement for CASETiFY's new iPhone 17 Pro case, even though he is actually still using an iPhone 16 Pro. When asked, Chan humorously shared that the process of transferring data to the new device "took all day".

This seemingly joking statement touches the psychology of many Apple users, who often complain about moving data between iPhone generations.

Soon after, netizens spread a “magic trick” of placing two phones in a rice cooker to shorten the data transfer time. Some videos even proved that the process of copying 256 GB of data could be reduced from three hours to just one hour. The poster explained that the metal layer in the rice cooker creates a “Faraday cage” effect, which enhances the signal reflection and speeds up the transmission speed.

However, Apple representatives have confirmed that this is a misconception. The iPhone uses a peer-to-peer (P2P) data transmission mechanism through a virtual access point, which is completely unaffected by external network signals. Putting the phone in a rice cooker cannot help speed up the process, and even poses a risk of overheating if the user is careless.

However, many real-life user tests show the opposite. The sealed metal cage blocks the waves, making data transmission more stable. It is suitable when customers transfer data at phone stores, Apple Stores, which have hundreds of devices, and the network is interfered by overlapping frequencies.

Apple’s rejection of this “manual” approach may stem from its service philosophy. Admitting that rice cookers transfer data quickly means that the technology Apple provides is not perfect. In addition, bringing cooking utensils to an Apple Store, which is positioned as a luxury, also goes against the tradition of American manufacturers.

However, this phenomenon also reflects the fact that many users are not satisfied with the data copying speed of the iPhone. Meanwhile, Android companies such as Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, OnePlus have formed a "data transfer alliance", allowing information to be transferred between devices of different brands just by placing them close together. The transfer speed can reach 80 MB/s, significantly faster than Apple's default solution.

According to Lei Technology , in some special cases, the rice cooker trick can give better results, but mainly due to Wi-Fi interference. Technology expert Xiao Lei commented that instead of experimenting with technological magic, users should prioritize orthodox methods such as direct connection with Type-C cable or data backup on cloud platforms.
