MU legend Paul Scholes announced he is stopping his football commentary career to devote all his time to taking care of his son Aiden, who has severe autism and needs 24/7 monitoring.

Scholes gave up his football commentary career to focus on his son.

The 50-year-old former midfielder said the decision was not easy, but necessary as his life revolved around Aiden's routine. Scholes' 20-year-old son is severely autistic and cannot speak, with only those close to him understanding his sounds and actions.

"I'm no longer with Claire (my ex-wife), so we share the care of Aiden every week. Everything is in order, from swimming, pizza to buying chocolate. Even though Aiden doesn't know the day of the week, just by looking at his activities he knows what day it is," Scholes shared on the Stick to Football podcast with Gary Neville and Roy Keane.

Scholes further revealed that being a commentator made Aiden irritable, because his daily routine was disrupted: "I usually cover Europa League on Thursday nights, the day Aiden is with me. He becomes restless, biting, scratching... because he doesn't understand what's going on. I know I have to stop."

In the past, Scholes kept his son's diagnosis a secret, and was even removed from the squad by Sir Alex Ferguson due to his poor performance due to stress. "At that time, I didn't tell anyone because I thought it wouldn't help. But my biggest worry now is who will take care of him when I'm gone?" , Scholes choked.

Despite leaving his commentary career, Scholes still maintains his own podcast , The Good, The Bad and The Football, with Nicky Butt and Paddy McGuinness, but it's all arranged around Aiden's schedule.

"I don't want pity," Scholes said. "I just want my child to have stability, because that's the only thing that will make him feel safe."
