Garden purple lotus is a brand specializing in providing all kinds of lotus in Bao Loc market. It is also the passion of a woman, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Van, a single mother raising three children. No one could have guessed that the petite woman with graceful hands who takes care of lotus, makes lotus, and sells thousands of pots of lotus used to be a very poor household in B'Lao ward, Bao Loc city. Ms. Le Thi Thanh Van shared: "My four children and I are poor, the whole family has to rent a house, my mother works for hire. Luckily, I still have my family, my village, and my organization nearby, and my children can still go to school. Thanks to the neighbors and organizations, today my children and I have a home, and the Garden purple lotus brand."

Ms. Thanh Van said that the succulent business started from the small joy of a woman. In 2018, Ms. Van got acquainted with small, pretty, easy-to-grow, easy-to-live succulent plants. At first, she only bought a few pots to bring home, to give her rented house a little green. Unexpectedly, the more she took care of them, the more she found that succulents were easy to grow, easy to care for, and very durable, not afraid of damage. She came up with the idea, and tried importing a few succulents to both play with and sell. “Succulents have been successfully grown, and it is very easy to keep them in pots in the house. But to grow them in large quantities for business, it is necessary to have a greenhouse and a careful roof because succulents are a species that prefers shallow water, and when exposed to water, they will become waterlogged and rot. Especially, Bao Loc's rainy season is continuous, without a greenhouse, it is impossible to produce and sell succulents,” Ms. Thanh Van recalled. But for poor households, where is the money to build a greenhouse? She thought that “necessity makes wisdom”, but unexpectedly, the support capital from the Social Policy Bank helped her get her first capital. Through the Loan and Saving Group of the Women's Union of B'Lao Ward, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Van borrowed from the job creation program to build a 150 m2 greenhouse. From the loan capital, a small greenhouse was formed, where she imported succulents, cared for them and supplied them to the market.

“During the pandemic, the demand for growing small, pretty, green plants in the family was very high. But traveling was difficult, so from there, I got used to providing goods on the internet. And the Purple Lotus Garden brand was born from that time,” she said. Customers had a need, started to get used to the internet, Ms. Thanh Van and her two eldest daughters enthusiastically produced and packaged goods to ship all over the country. She said that although her two daughters were studying in Ho Chi Minh City, they still took pictures, delivered and shipped goods to help their mother. Over the past six years, she has borrowed capital to create jobs from the Social Policy Bank three times to expand the greenhouse area for growing lotus.

Currently, the succulent garden of Ms. Le Thi Thanh Van's family is 500 m2 wide, with 800 different types of succulents. Ms. Thanh Van chooses succulents and succulents that are small in size, low in price, and easy for consumers to choose. She said that after six years of growing and trading succulents, she has gained experience and techniques to take care of the plants effectively. According to her, succulents must be protected from moderate sunlight. If the sun is too strong at noon, a black net must be pulled to cover and reduce the sun for the plants. She also commented that the market prefers small succulents for flower arrangements and miniature landscapes. For those who love succulents grown alone, she often introduces succulents with bright, colorful colors and flowers.

Currently, Purple Garden is a fairly famous online succulent brand on the internet community. Ms. Thanh Van hired people to livestream to sell products, she learned how to take pictures, and process beautiful photos to provide products on social networks. In addition, her daughter has graduated from university, started working, has an income to support herself and still helps her mother promote and sell succulents. She confided: “Borrowing money from the State is very convenient, low interest, and can be paid in installments gradually. When you have money, you just pay it back and the time is deducted. My family was lucky to borrow capital from the State, so we have a succulent garden like today. My two older daughters went to university thanks to student loans, so they were able to follow the path of studying. I am very grateful to the organization, grateful to the bank for supporting and accompanying my family to overcome poverty.”

Ms. Huynh Thi Giao - Vice President of the Women's Union of B'Lao Ward, Bao Loc City, assessed that Ms. Le Thi Thanh Van is a woman who has overcome difficulties very spectacularly. Previously, Ms. Thanh Van's family was very poor, living in a rented house and working for hire. Ms. Thanh Van boldly used the loan from the Social Policy Bank to build a greenhouse to sell succulents, invest in production, and bring in a stable source of income. From the loan sources, Ms. Thanh Van was able to build a house, have a garden, and send her children to school. The hardworking woman, with the support of the Women's Union at all levels, the generous capital helped her family escape poverty. In 2021, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Van's family was no longer a poor household, rising up to do business to build a sustainable economy .
