On the morning of June 17, at Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park (SHTP), the High-Tech Business Incubator in collaboration with DFM-TECH Joint Stock Company organized a workshop on "Developing an ecosystem for green renewable energy technology".

The event brought together a large number of experts, managers and business representatives to discuss the roadmap for renewable energy development, especially green hydrogen, in the context of a strong global shift to clean energy solutions.

At the workshop, Associate Professor Dr. Le Quoc Cuong, Deputy Head of SHTP Management Board said: “Based on the city's general orientation, SHTP has set a goal to strive for more than 50% of total energy consumption at SHTP to come from renewable sources by a certain point. Renewable energy, especially green Hydrogen, is a clean energy source with great potential to replace fossil fuels, contributing to reducing carbon emissions in heavy industry, transportation and energy”.

“After more than a year of implementing the “Hydrogen Energy Development Strategy” approved in Decision No. 165/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister in early 2024, we have received a lot of attention from domestic and foreign investors researching, proposing and implementing hydrogen development projects in Vietnam,” Mr. Cuong added.

At the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Hai An, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Biotechnology Center, shared about the rooftop solar power model that the center is applying to reduce operating costs and ensure continuous operation for specialized laboratories.

“In addition to renewable energy, we also research biological products that contribute to reducing environmental pollution and developing a circular economy . This is also the direction that the center is focusing on. Through the workshop, we hope that businesses will support, cooperate, and build projects on green renewable energy, especially on electricity consumption. This is an economical direction to contribute to SHTP's Net zero project,” Dr. An added.

Delegates at the workshop agreed that renewable energy, especially green hydrogen technology, has become an irreversible global trend. Vietnam is not out of this trend. By issuing specific policies such as the National Energy Development Strategy and a separate strategy for hydrogen, the country is gradually institutionalizing its commitment to sustainable development.

Ho Chi Minh City is also not out of the direction, setting a target that by 2030, renewable energy (solar power, wind power, electricity from waste) will account for 15% of the total capacity of the entire power system. An important step in the roadmap to realizing the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.

In the context of the global supply chain being “greened”, the application of clean energy technology is not only an environmental requirement but also a condition to enhance competitiveness in attracting high-quality FDI, especially in key industries such as microchips, semiconductors and biotechnology.

Through presentations, experiences from large corporations and startup perspectives, the workshop clearly outlined the opportunities and challenges in building a green renewable energy ecosystem in Ho Chi Minh City.
