Dr. Nguyen Quoc Trieu, former Minister of Health and former Head of the Central Committee's Health Protection and Care Board for Cadres, passed away on the afternoon of January 24th at the age of 71.
The Ministry of Health stated that Mr. Trieu had been receiving treatment at Bach Mai Hospital since mid-2024 in a rather serious condition.
The funeral of former Minister of Health Nguyen Quoc Trieu will be held according to high-level protocol. The viewing will begin at 7:00 AM on January 26th at the National Funeral Home, 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi .
Mr. Trieu was born in Bac Ninh province. He is a member of the 10th Central Committee; former Head of the Central Committee's Health Protection and Care Board; former Minister of Health; and former Chairman of Hanoi City.
He spent a long time working at the Ministry of Health, making significant contributions to the prevention and control of the 2009 A/H1N1 influenza pandemic and the 2007 outbreak of acute diarrhea in many areas. He was also the person who introduced Project 1861, which involved the rotation of medical staff from higher-level hospitals to support lower-level hospitals. Thanks to this policy, the quality of healthcare at the lower levels has improved, allowing people to access high-quality healthcare right in their localities and reducing the burden on higher-level hospitals.
For the achievements mentioned above, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Trieu was awarded the First-Class Independence Order; the First, Second, and Third-Class Labor Orders; the Second-Class Resistance Medal against the US for National Salvation; the Quang Tri Citadel Soldier Badge; and the 50-Year Party Membership Badge.
