Journey to the pinnacle of fame
Nguyen Cong Tri was born in 1978 in Da Nang. His innate talent for painting was nurtured by his family since he was 5-6 years old despite his poor economic situation.
Cong Tri stuck with the drawing brush and achieved his first success when he won the first prize in the chalk drawing contest in the yard organized by UNICEF at the National Children's Festival in 1991. The real turning point came when he studied Industrial Fine Arts at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture and won the New Idea prize at the Vietnam Collection Grand Prix in 2000.
Domestic success was just the beginning. Cong Tri continued to conquer prestigious international awards: the Bay FM Award of Asia Collection in Makuhari, Japan and 2nd Runner-up of the Asia Fashion Collection competition in Singapore in 2001 with the collection The Sublimation of Land and Water .
In 2002, the decision to establish the high-end fashion brand CONG TRI marked the birth of a fashion empire. With its unique creative style, sophisticated pleating techniques and the subtle combination of modern Asian spirit, Cong Tri quickly dominated the high-end segment.
When Hollywood calls
Cong Tri's designs are not only popular with Vietnamese celebrities such as Ho Ngoc Ha, Thanh Hang, My Tam, H'Hen Nie, but also go beyond national borders. In 2014, he was honored as one of the 100 contemporary haute couture designers selected from over 14,000 international designers.
His silk dresses and suits are highly appreciated for their perfect combination of practicality and high-end aesthetics, imbued with Asian culture but still suitable for global tastes.
The real boom came in 2017 when two famous singers Rihanna and Katy Perry chose his designs. Since then, Cong Tri's VIP client list has included many Hollywood stars such as: Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Lopez, Charlize Theron, Zendaya, Gwyneth Paltrow, Josephine Skriver, Sophie Turner, Camila Cabello and former US First Lady Michelle Obama.
Rosé and Lisa of BlackPink also could not resist the appeal of Cong Tri's signature designs, from big events to music videos in the period 2021-2023.
With prices up to several hundred million VND per high-end outfit, CONG TRI is not only a fashion brand but also a symbol of luxury and class. His shows always gather A-list stars, affirming his position as the undisputed "king" in the Vietnamese fashion industry.
The secret behind success
Despite his fame, Cong Tri is extremely secretive about his private life. In a rare sharing on the 2018 Mysterious Hotel talk show with MC Tran Thanh, he revealed that he is a rational person in love and had a 13-year relationship. His philosophy of "keeping a pure mind" and not caring about gossip to focus on work is the key to helping him maintain an image that is always curious and attractive to the public.
Cong Tri owns a considerable amount of assets. He once confided about the monthly pressure of maintaining the company, paying for premises and employee salaries, but his constant efforts have brought him a prosperous life, worthy of a leading position in the industry.
The unexpected fall
July 23, 2025 will forever be a dark day in Nguyen Cong Tri's career. Ho Chi Minh City police announced the dismantling of a drug trafficking and illegal use ring, in which this talented designer was involved.
According to information from the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department and Tan Hoa Ward Police, Cong Tri and Tran Phu Long (36 years old) were discovered illegally using drugs at their home in Tan Hung Ward, Ho Chi Minh City on the evening of June 23, 2025.

The case originated on June 12, 2025, when the authorities conducted an administrative inspection of a house on Lac Long Quan Street and caught Nguyen Quoc Trung (35 years old) in the act of storing and trading marijuana and cocaine. The investigation further led to the discovery of Cong Tri's involvement.
When searching the residence of the two people, the authorities seized items suspected of being used for drug use such as ceramic plates, rolled up bills and plastic cards. Both admitted that these items were used to consume illegal substances. Currently, Ho Chi Minh City Police are completing the dossier to handle the case according to the law.
