National team player Nguyen Dang Minh finished with a score of 66 (-6). He started from hole 10, had a good start with two birdies on holes 12 and 13, before making his only bogey of the day on hole 14. The 18-year-old golfer finished the first nine holes with another birdie on hole 16.
In the latter half of the round, Dang Minh hit a bogey-free shot, adding four more birdies on holes 1, 2, 6, and 7, finishing the first round with a score of (-6) and taking the lead in the men's standings.
Defending champion Anh Minh finished second with a total score of (-2), recording 4 birdies and 2 bogeys. Three golfers tied for third place with the same total score of (-1): Tang Nhon Phu, Doan Uy, and national team player Nguyen Nhat Long. In this group, only Nhon Phu is of professional (pro) level. The top 10 men's golfers also included amateur golfer Nguyen Tuan Anh, ranked 6th with an even par score.
Dang Minh finished first after the first day of competition at the 2023 National Golf Championship.
In the women's draw, amateur golfers dominated, with 6 out of the top 10. Le Chuc An shared the lead with professional golfer Nguyen Thao My, with a total score of (+3). In the first 9 holes, Le Chuc An only recorded 1 birdie at hole 18 and made 2 bogeys and 1 double bogey. However, halfway through the second round, the 2008-born athlete improved her performance with 2 birdies and only 1 double bogey.
Meanwhile, starting at hole 10, Nguyen Thao My made a double bogey on hole 12 and then two more bogeys on holes 13 and 14. However, the former national champion quickly regained her form, scoring two birdies on holes 15 and 2, but then added another bogey on hole 3.
Doan Xuan Minh Khue had a poor result on the first day of competition. She finished third behind Nguyen Viet Gia Han.
Tomorrow, August 9th, is also the second day of the 2023 National Championship. After 36 holes, there will be a cut, selecting 40 male and 12 female golfers to advance to the third round. The winner in each category is the player with the lowest total gross score at the end of the tournament in that category.
