U23 Vietnam drew 0-0 with U23 Kyrgyzstan in 90 minutes of official play. In the penalty shootout, coach Philippe Troussier's team lost 4-5 when Quoc Viet failed to score.
With this result, U23 Vietnam ranked last among 10 teams participating in the Doha Cup 2023.
However, U23 Vietnam was still comforted when in this match, striker Nguyen Thanh Nhan received the Best Player award.
The player wearing the number 10 jersey played very energetically and created several opportunities for his teammates in attack. Unfortunately, U23 Vietnam could not take advantage to bring about a better result against U23 Kyrgyzstan.
Thanh Nhan shared: "My team and I played a match that met the requirements of the coaching staff. That is, we controlled the ball and applied what we had practiced.
In the penalty shootout, U23 Vietnam could not beat U23 Kyrgyzstan. However, the Doha Cup is just the first step for U23 Vietnam to reach the goal of winning the 32nd SEA Games gold medal. We are training hard to prepare for this tournament."
The striker added: “I think the ball control style of play is somewhat suitable for current Vietnamese players. This style of play also does not require too much strength.”
After the match, U23 Vietnam returned home. Coach Philippe Troussier and his team are expected to regroup on April 19, with 10 days to prepare for the 32nd SEA Games.
