According to the new competition schedule just announced by the 32nd SEA Games athletics organizing committee, the golden girl of Vietnamese athletics, Nguyen Thi Oanh, on today's competition day, May 9, must compete in two consecutive final events including the 1,500m at 5:00 p.m. and the 3,000m steeplechase at 5:50 p.m.
Nguyen Thi Oanh convincingly won the gold medal in the 5,000m event on the afternoon of May 8.
This change is really causing difficulties for Nguyen Thi Oanh and of course other athletes competing in the two events. Because the time between the two competitions is too short, it is completely possible that the athletes will easily become exhausted and affect their health.
Previously, according to the original schedule, Nguyen Thi Oanh competed in the 3,000 m hurdles at 5:50 p.m. this afternoon (May 9). Meanwhile, the 1,500 m event was on May 11 at 4:50 p.m. These are the two events in which Oanh won gold medals at the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam. Similarly, the 5,000 m event was just defended very convincingly on the competition day of May 8.
However, it is unclear why the SEA Games 32 athletics organizing committee changed the competition schedule so suddenly. "The SEA Games 32 athletics organizing committee sent the overall schedule to the delegations, but when it came to the competition, they changed the schedule every day in a way that I don't know why. We have made a request, but they still did not change. Therefore, Nguyen Thi Oanh now has to compete in both events in one day and with a very tight schedule," said Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation.

Previously, on the competition day of May 8, the organizing committee of the 32nd SEA Games athletics also unexpectedly canceled the men's 800m event to promote the men's 1,500m event to compete first. This change has had a significant impact on athlete Luong Duc Phuoc (who only won a silver medal). Duc Phuoc said: "This change makes it difficult for athletes because they are passive in their preparation. With the 1,500m event, the preparation and warm-up before the competition takes place for a whole day. Therefore, the sudden change has had a significant impact on the performance of the competition, when having to change the event they are preparing to compete in."
In addition to the constant changes in the competition schedule, the athletics competition at the 32nd SEA Games is not really perfect in terms of competition organization, when at Morodok Techo stadium, the electronic screens do not work to display information about the list of competing athletes, and even when reaching the finish line, the results are not known... These things are really causing many difficulties for the media working at the stadium and the competing athletes.
