On the track of Supachalasai Stadium (Bangkok, Thailand), the Athletics team performed brilliantly to achieve a "hat-trick" of gold medals for the Vietnamese sports delegation on the afternoon of December 15th at the 33rd SEA Games.

In the 10,000m event, Nguyen Thi Oanh once again affirmed her position as the "queen" of long-distance athletics in Vietnam. Entering the race, the runner from Bac Giang province attracted much attention, not only because of her impressive track record across SEA Games, but also because of her ability to control her pace and her competitive spirit, which have become her unique hallmarks.

Similar to the 5,000m race, the Vietnamese women's athletics team was virtually unopposed at the SEA Games. The runner from Bac Giang gradually tightened the pace, wearing down the endurance of her opponents before breaking away and dominating the race.

Immediately after the starting signal, Le Thi Tuyet quickly took the lead, maintaining her position for most of the race with a steady pace, forcing her competitors to chase under constant pressure.

However, at the decisive moment, Nguyen Thi Oanh proved her champion's class by accelerating strongly and overtaking her younger competitors in the final 400m to win the gold medal with a time of 34 minutes 27 seconds 93.

The female athlete crossed the finish line with a powerful surge, creating a clear gap between herself and her teammate. This also marks the second consecutive gold medal win for Nguyen Thi Oanh in the 10,000m race, following her participation in the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia. With her consistent performance and superior physical fitness, Nguyen Thi Oanh is expected to continue her pursuit of the remaining gold medal in the 3,000m steeplechase at this year's SEA Games.

The runner from Bac Giang also won a gold medal in the 5,000m race, contributing to another successful SEA Games 33 for Vietnamese athletics.

Earlier, kicking off a glorious day for Vietnamese athletics, Quách Thị Lan brought home the first gold medal by finishing in her strongest event, the women's 400m hurdles, with a time of 56.82 seconds.

Notably, this is Quách Thị Lan's first individual gold medal at the SEA Games. This victory is even more meaningful for this girl born in 1995 as this may be her last Southeast Asian Games.

Following the joy of his teammate's victory, Nguyen Trung Cuong continued to bring home a gold medal for Vietnamese athletics in his strongest event, the 3,000m steeplechase.

In the final, the athlete from Ha Tinh proactively took the lead from the early laps, creating a safe distance from the chasing group before crossing the finish line first with a time of 8 minutes 55 seconds 32, thereby successfully defending her SEA Games championship title.

Vietnamese athletics concluded the day with an impressive surge, winning three gold medals, highlighted by the performances of two strong female athletes. Nguyen Thi Oanh continued to break historical records with her 14th gold medal at the SEA Games, while Quach Thi Lan marked a powerful comeback with a convincing victory in her strongest event.

Not only did Vietnamese track and field athletes achieve three top-of-the-line finishes, but they also contributed five silver and two bronze medals, thanks to names like Nguyen Duc Son, Le Quoc Huy, Le Thi Tuyet, Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, and Bui Thi Ngan, creating an emotional and successful day of competition for the team at the 33rd SEA Games.
