According to Khaosod , on May 20, a Romanian female tourist named Cristina had money illegally withdrawn from her bank account after losing her credit card during her trip to Thailand. The total amount of money she lost was up to 280,000 baht (about 220 million VND).
Police Naruwat Phuttharo - Commander of the Immigration Police of Surat Thani Province (Thailand) - said that Ms. Cristina went to report to the Saku Police Station (Phuket, Thailand) after discovering a large amount of money missing from her account for unknown reasons. The case was quickly transferred to the relevant units for investigation.

Police chief Phanumas Boonyalak has ordered the force to speed up the investigation. He said the incident not only affected the victim personally but also seriously damaged the reputation and tourism image of Thailand.
Through security camera extraction and crime scene investigation, police discovered the suspect was a tourist bus driver named Channarong (34 years old).
This person used a white car, drove around Surat Thani City (Surat Thani, Thailand), and withdrew money 14 times from many ATMs. The total amount of illegal withdrawals was up to 280,000 baht (about 220 million VND).
After collecting enough evidence, the authorities applied for a search warrant at Channarong’s residence on Talad Mai Road (Mueang District, Surat Thani Province, Thailand). At the scene, the police seized all the stolen cash along with the clothes the suspect was wearing when committing the crime.

During questioning, Channarong admitted to picking up a credit card with a tourist’s login code on it on the bus. When he checked and found that the card was still active, he made multiple unauthorized cash withdrawals.
Channarong was charged with theft, appropriation of property and documents of others in a manner likely to cause damage, possession and unauthorized use of another person's electronic card to withdraw cash.
The suspect was handed over to the Saku Police Station for further criminal proceedings. The police also pledged to arrange for the Romanian tourist to be reimbursed as soon as possible.
