Many localities in Dong Nai are urgently reviewing their school systems, facilities and teaching staff to increase the number of schools that can implement two-session teaching per day from the next school year.

Ready to teach 2 sessions/day

Head of the Departmentof Education and Training of Long Khanh City, Tran Cong Nghi, said that the system of primary and secondary schools in the city has been invested in thoroughly, meeting the conditions of national standard schools. Therefore, Long Khanh City can basically implement teaching 2 sessions/day from the upcoming new school year, as directed by General Secretary To Lam.

Mr. Tran Cong Nghi said that from the 2024-2025 school year onwards, many primary schools in Long Khanh city have taught 2 sessions/day. Specifically, each class uses a separate classroom, with functional rooms shared. In addition to teaching 2 sessions/day, many primary schools have organized boarding, students have lunch and rest right at school.
At the secondary level, currently 5/10 schools have enough classrooms for each class, the remaining 5 schools have a shortage but the shortage is not significant, it can be calculated to ensure enough classrooms to teach 2 sessions/day, 3 to 4 days/week.

In Xuan Loc district, by the end of April 2025, the district had 64/66 schools recognized as meeting national standards (accounting for 96.97%), of which 10/66 schools met national standards at level 2. This is the condition for the district to confidently implement teaching 2 sessions/day at primary and secondary levels as directed by General Secretary To Lam .

Principal of Xuan Truong Primary School (Xuan Truong Commune, Xuan Loc District) Nguyen Duy Dong said that since the 2022-2023 school year, the school has organized 2 sessions/day for all students. In the morning, students study according to the official schedule, and in the afternoon, they study skills subjects such as enhanced English, information technology, music, fine arts, and soccer. Students are very excited to study 2 sessions/day because they can both study and play, and parents are happy because they do not have to worry about taking care of children in the afternoon, so they can focus on work.

Ms. Le Thi Thao Trang, a parent whose child studies at Hung Vuong Secondary School (Trang Bom District) said: "We parents want students to go to school more often but not to add more pressure. In addition to acquiring knowledge, if students can study 2 sessions/day, the school should research and teach additional skills such as English, IT, sports or organize skill clubs to help students become more confident in life."

Review schools and teachers

Meanwhile, in Long Thanh district, the leader of the district People's Committee said that in recent years, the district has focused on investing quite a lot of resources in the school system and teaching staff, meeting the requirements of improving the quality of human resources in the new situation. Improving the quality of human resources is the "key" for the district to welcome new opportunities as a new center of aviation and high technology in the region and the whole country.

Regarding the conditions for teaching 2 sessions/day in the spirit of the recent direction of General Secretary To Lam, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Long Thanh district Nguyen Van Toan said: "Currently, 100% of primary schools in the district have taught 2 sessions/day. Particularly for secondary schools, some schools have pioneered teaching 2 sessions/day on some days of the week. In order to have 100% of secondary schools teaching 2 sessions/day in the coming school year, the Department of Education and Training of the district is reviewing the facilities and teaching staff so that more schools can implement this policy."

Also related to reviewing and preparing conditions for teaching 2 sessions/day, many localities such as Tan Phu, Dinh Quan, Nhon Trach, said that teaching 2 sessions/day is not difficult, especially at primary level, it is quite favorable, because many schools have met national standards, ensuring both facilities and teaching staff. In addition, teaching 2 sessions/day is highly supported by parents. The problem is how to improve the quality of teaching 2 sessions/day with a rich curriculum, in which it is necessary to organize boarding schools soon to facilitate both students and parents in picking up and dropping off.

The Central Party Office has just announced the conclusion of General Secretary To Lam at the working session with the Government Party Committee, ministries and branches on preparing the Politburo's Resolution on educational and training breakthroughs and some policies to support teaching and learning, which took place on April 18. Accordingly, primary and secondary schools will organize 2 sessions/day depending on the conditions of each locality. There is a roadmap to gradually implement this policy, in which it is necessary to combine State investment with socialization incentives. Teaching 2 sessions/day is free of charge and reduces pressure on students, and increasing teaching about culture and arts ensures students' comprehensive development.

As for localities facing pressure from a large number of students such as Bien Hoa city, Head of the city's Department of Education and Training Luu Thi Hang said that currently only about 50% of primary schools are teaching 2 sessions/day, the rest cannot implement due to lack of classrooms and lack of teachers. Therefore, the City Party Committee and People's Committee are resolutely directing the early completion of new school construction and renovation projects to meet the needs of schools and classrooms. The city also proposed to supplement the number of teachers to ensure that 2 sessions/day can be taught in 100% of primary schools, because this is also a difficulty for this level of education.

Ms. Luu Thi Hang added that in the 2025-2026 school year, there will no longer be a district level. According to the new policy, kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools may be handed over to the commune level for management. However, from now on, the city still directs to continue reviewing the conditions and at the same time has directions for schools to prepare. For secondary schools that meet the conditions, they will immediately start implementing 2-session/day teaching at the beginning of next year. For schools that do not meet the conditions, they can study and organize alternating 2-session/day learning in each grade level, and at the same time have a roadmap to teach 2-session/day for the entire school.
