Nowadays, many orthodontic patients are victims of fake dentists. Many dental clinics exploit the psychology of wanting cheap prices, advertising heavily on social platforms to attract patients to get braces. After collecting a large amount of money from the patient's down payment, the dental clinic disappears, closes down, and abandons the patient's treatment.
It is worth mentioning that fake dental clinics often do not have properly trained doctors, but only assistants performing the braces process, leading to incorrect instructions, affecting the health and wasting time of the braces patient.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Cao Binh, Director of the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology ( Hanoi ) said that currently there are many reputable hospitals and clinics with specialized doctors to serve the diverse needs of the people. However, many dental clinics take advantage of the law, hiring people without expertise, leading to incorrect indications, causing harm to the health of customers. Complications that can occur when wearing braces include: teeth being pushed out of the alveolar bone, tooth root resorption, gum recession, tooth sensitivity, tooth decay and pulp damage, misaligned bite, temporomandibular joint disorder... taking more time to correct.
A typical example is a male student LTP (21 years old), who had buck teeth. Through an online advertisement, he went to a dental clinic to get braces. The price of braces here was quite cheap, only 8 million VND for the upper jaw, so this student agreed to do it. However, after the braces, the student saw that the buck teeth did not improve, and even some of the teeth roots showed signs of popping out of the jaw bone. When he contacted the dental clinic, the doctor gave a vague explanation and postponed the follow-up appointment.
Too worried, P went to the hospital and was diagnosed with skeletal class III malocclusion, with occlusal trauma due to overcompensatory orthodontics. The cause was that the previous dentist gave the wrong treatment plan and did not closely monitor the process. After that, the young man was prescribed jaw surgery and screw removal. Currently, P is practicing chewing and needs more time for his jaw to recover, while continuing orthodontic treatment.
Another victim was female student NT N (19 years old) who was born with a missing tooth in the upper jaw, severely crooked teeth, and misaligned bite. While surfing the internet, she saw a dental clinic 3 km from her house advertising braces for 15 million VND. N went there and was advised by the staff that it would only take about 1.5 years to have beautiful teeth.
However, after 6 months of seeing no improvement, the female student went for a follow-up visit and the dental clinic had disappeared, and the sign was gone. N knocked on the door and asked, and the landlord said that the clinic had terminated the lease.
Not only at the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology, but also at some private dental clinics, many cases of broken braces at other facilities are also received for repair. According to statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology, from the beginning of 2025 until now, this facility has received about 335 cases of patients coming for treatment after having braces performed ineffectively at other facilities.
According to Dr. Nguyen Minh - Tam Dentist Dental System, many unprofessional dentists prey on people's psychology of wanting cheap prices and advertise heavily on social platforms. Therefore, it is easy to lead to incorrect indications, affecting the health of people with braces. The owners of these dental clinics often circumvent the law by only signing short-term contracts, 1 or 2 months with dentists to open a dental clinic and then terminate the contract.
Doctors recommend that, in order to avoid being trapped, people should only have braces done at reputable dental clinics that have full operating licenses from the local Department of Health . This information is clearly displayed on the clinic's signboard.
When there are concerns or problems arising during the orthodontic process, the dental office must promptly answer and take care of them. If the dental office is evasive, blames, avoids or delays the re-examination schedule, it is a sign of wrongdoing and everyone needs to be vigilant to avoid losing money and getting sick.
