According to a group of students from the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics, the idea came from the realization that the process of construction, maintenance and quality monitoring of roads requires measuring equipment that is highly accurate, fast and easy to use. In particular, the length of the road is an important parameter, directly affecting the construction volume, investment costs and quality of project acceptance.
However, traditional measurement methods (using tape measures, mechanical measuring wheels or other manual measurement methods) have many disadvantages such as: low accuracy, easily affected by environmental factors or human manipulation, lack of automatic data storage and processing capabilities.

Therefore, the group designed and developed a smart wheel-type road length measuring device, electronically displaying meters and automatically collecting measurement data to the data center. This topic and 9 other excellent school-level topics were selected to participate in the final round at the Ministry of Education and Training.

Speaking at the conference to summarize and award students in scientific research for the 2024-2025 academic year, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Hung, President of the University of Transport, said that the role of universities is not only to train highly qualified human resources but also to be centers of innovation, applied research, and technology transfer. The school identifies that scientific research and innovation are not only the foundation for training quality but also the path to bring knowledge to serve the country's development.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the school's student scientific research activities continued to grow strongly with 733 approved topics and nearly 3,000 students participating.
The topics are of increasingly high quality, not only academic but also applicable in the transportation industry such as: Construction, mechanical engineering, economic transportation, logistics, electricity - electronics, information technology, environment and smart cities... There is cooperation with businesses and experts outside the school from participating in guidance to evaluation and acceptance.

Mr. Hung said that today's achievements are the result of continuous efforts, but to go further, students need to continue to innovate more strongly, dare to think, dare to do, dare to engage in new, difficult, unsolved problems. "I hope that students continue to maintain their passion, practice their academic skills, constantly learn, actively contribute to the development of the country and confidently step out into the world ," said Mr. Hung.
