Tires

Tires expand when exposed to high temperatures, and if the pressure exceeds the allowable level, it can cause the tire to explode. In addition, worn or cracked tires are also susceptible to damage when traveling long distances.

How to check:

Use a pressure gauge to check your tires before driving.

Inspect the tire tread and sidewalls for cracks or unusual wear.

Tires should be replaced after 3 - 5 years of use.

Cooling system

The cooling system helps maintain a stable temperature for the engine. When there is a lack of coolant or the radiator leaks, the engine is prone to overheating, leading to serious damage.

How to check:

Check coolant level when engine is cold.

Observe the color and smell of the coolant, if there are any unusual signs it should be replaced.

Make sure there are no leaks in the pipes.

Battery

Batteries perform poorly in hot conditions because the electrolyte evaporates more quickly than normal. This can make it difficult to start the vehicle.

How to check:

Observe the battery terminals, clean if there are signs of oxidation.

If the battery is more than 2 years old, it should be checked at the garage for its capacity.

Monitor the startup sound for signs of low power.

Engine oil

High temperatures make the oil thinner, reducing its lubricating and cooling efficiency. This can cause the engine to overheat or wear out internal components.

How to check:

Check the oil level with the dipstick.

If the oil is dark black, has a burnt smell or is too thin, it should be changed soon.

Oil should be changed periodically as recommended by the manufacturer.

Air conditioning system

Air conditioning systems are essential in the summer, but can easily encounter problems such as weak cooling or unpleasant odors if not regularly maintained.

How to check:

Turn on the air conditioner to check the coolness and smell.

If cooling is slow, check the refrigerant level and clean the air filter.

Regularly maintain the air conditioning system every 6 - 12 months. According to Dr. David Bennett, senior technical expert of the American Automobile Association (AAA): "Summer is the time when car problems increase due to the impact of the weather. Thoroughly checking important parts before each trip is necessary to ensure safety and avoid major repair costs." He also recommends scheduling regular maintenance at the beginning of summer, especially if the car is about to make a long journey.
