TBR 97 and Thai Xuyen 111 rice varieties give high yield in Nghe An

TBR 97 - Rice variety suitable for harsh climate conditions

The delegation visited the TBR 97 rice field in Hoa Son commune, Do Luong district. The first impression was of a flat, disease-free golden rice carpet, while the surrounding rice fields were knocked down by storms. This shows the outstanding advantage of the TBR 97 rice variety in withstanding extreme weather fluctuations.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Dan - Director of Hoa Son Agricultural Service Cooperative, TBR 97 variety has been grown stably through 3 crops in this commune with an area of ​​over 300 hectares, and has always achieved high productivity. In the winter-spring crop of 2024 - 2025, despite many fluctuations in the weather, from low temperatures to unusual rain and wind, TBR 97 variety still grows well, is not affected by pests and diseases, especially diseases such as brown spot or rice blast.

“We are very confident with this rice variety, the yield is always stable, averaging over 7 tons/ha, especially the rice grains are very firm, with no empty grains,” Mr. Dan shared.

Not only is TBR 97 resistant to weather and pests, it also has very good rice quality. TBR 97 rice has long, clear grains, soft rice and a light aroma, rich flavor but not sticky, very suitable for the taste of local people. This is also one of the factors that makes this rice variety the top choice of farmers.

TBR 97 is a purebred rice variety, selected and created by the Institute of Food Crops and produced and exclusively distributed by ThaiBinh Seed. This variety has wide adaptability and can withstand intensive cultivation. With a short growing period of only 105 to 125 days depending on the crop, TBR 97 is especially suitable for the growing conditions in Nghe An .

TBR 97 rice plants are 90 to 100 cm tall, have hard stems, strong tillering, concentrated flowering, and are especially resistant to lodging and pests. In the winter-spring crop, the yield is 70 to 75 quintals/ha, and can reach 75 to 80 quintals/ha if intensive farming is applied. In the summer-autumn crop, the yield ranges from 60 to 65 quintals/ha. This is one of the rice varieties with stable yield and high rice quality.

Thai Xuyen 111 variety has outstanding productivity.

Also on May 14, Mr. Tran Manh Bao - Chairman of the Board of Directors of ThaiBinh Seed Group, along with the delegation and delegates, visited and evaluated the production results of Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety in Ngoc Son commune, Quynh Luu district. This is one of the main rice varieties of Nghe An province for many years and has always received the trust of farmers thanks to its outstanding yield and high quality rice.

The working group directly inspected and evaluated the production situation of Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety in the fields of this locality. The reality at the scene showed that Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety has uniformly heavy grains.

Mr. Tran Van Phuong, a farmer in Ngoc Son hamlet, Quynh Luu district, shared: “This spring crop, my family planted 4 sao of Thai Xuyen 111 variety. This variety has the ability to produce many tillers, with a higher number of flowers than other varieties. The expected yield is about 3.6 to 3.7 quintals/sao. The care technique is quite simple but very effective, especially this rice variety has the ability to resist leaf rust and blast very well, rarely falls over, and the rice quality is delicious”.

In addition, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc - Director of Tan Ngoc Agricultural Service Cooperative, Ngoc Son Commune said: "This spring crop, Ngoc Son Commune has planted over 130 hectares of Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety. This rice variety has very good resistance to pests and diseases, helping people save production costs and increase productivity. It is expected that this spring crop, the total productivity of the commune can reach 74 quintals/ha".

Thai Xuyen 111 rice variety not only adapts well to the soil conditions of Ngoc Son commune but also has the ability to effectively resist pests and diseases, especially in adverse weather conditions. This is the factor that makes this rice variety the priority choice of farmers in the area.

Thai Xuyen 111 is a 3-line hybrid rice variety, a product of cooperation between High-Tech Agriculture Company Limited - Sichuan Agricultural University (China) and ThaiBinh Seed Group Joint Stock Company. This rice variety was recognized as a national variety in 2010 and has been widely grown in many provinces and cities across the country, especially in Nghe An.

Thai Xuyen 111 variety has a plant height of 105-110 cm, a hard stem, good lodging resistance, strong tillering, large panicles and many grains. The rice grains have standard length, the weight of 1,000 grains is from 25 to 26 grams. This variety is quite resistant to blast and mild bacterial leaf blight, is one of the rice varieties with good resistance to intensive farming, suitable for modern farming methods.

With an average yield of 70 to 80 quintals/ha, and can even reach 90-100 quintals/ha if intensive farming is applied, Thai Xuyen 111 is one of the rice varieties with outstanding yield. The quality of rice from this rice variety is also highly appreciated, the rice grains are clear, the rice is soft, and has a light aroma.

At the workshop, Mr. Tran Manh Bao - Chairman of the Board of Directors of ThaiBinh Seed Group shared: “Current climate change makes it impossible for us to predict the weather as accurately as before, but ThaiBinh Seed's Thai Xuyen 111 and TBR 97 varieties still ensure good productivity and quality even in adverse weather conditions. These two rice varieties have good resistance to harsh weather and pests, such as lodging resistance, cold resistance, and leaf blight resistance, helping farmers achieve high productivity and minimize risks”.

During the field visit and workshop, delegates highly appreciated the TBR 97 and Thai Xuyen 111 rice varieties for their growth, resistance and productivity. Compared to other rice varieties grown in the same area, these two rice varieties have great potential for development in the upcoming production seasons.
