Wax and colored pencil drawings from 1953-1955 by the 5-6 year old boy Charles (who is now King Charles III of England at the age of 74) have just been discovered in a large collection of memorabilia and will be auctioned at Hansons Auctioneers from June 16.

According to the images republished by many international newspapers, among these drawings, the two most notable are the ones labeled “Mummy” and “Papa” respectively, in which viewers can see the images of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip through the eyes of the 5-6 year old boy Charles at that time.

While the Queen is portrayed by her son in a yellow striped dress, red earrings and jewelry, a crown with purple jewelry and a handbag, the Duke (ie Prince Philip) appears in a formal suit with a bow tie.

These are just two lovely drawings from the “special collection of royal memorabilia” which includes a total of 10 childhood drawings of King Charles and royal letters, many family photos, Christmas cards. Others include a pair of bee-eaters signed “Charles”, drawings of trucks, owls, deer and Easter cards… There is also a particularly impressive drawing of King Charles for his father dated March 25, 1954 with the words “Dear Father, I look forward to seeing you on the train. Love, Charles”.

According to the British Royal Family's announcement, "All of these memorabilia were kept by the late writer, journalist and reporter specializing in information about the British royal family Henry Ramsay Maule (1915-1981) mostly during the period from the 1950s to the 1970s."

“This is an incredibly moving collection. The poignant children’s drawings and emotional photographs remind us that beyond the formality, ceremony and service to our country, our royal family also treasures the ordinary, everyday moments of family life,” said Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, in a statement about the newly discovered collection.

“When given a crayon and a pencil, almost every child’s first drawings are of their family. Our King is no different. This collection will help people to connect with him even more in his role as our ruler. These items were given to Mr. Henry Maule to support his work with the Royal Family, including writing the book All the Queen’s Children. They have been kept in private for over 30 years since his death in 1981,” said Hansons Auctioneers, explaining the long-standing “disappearance” of the collection. He also said that the auction of these items will give those interested in British royal life the opportunity to learn more about them from a new perspective.

His childhood drawings also show his love for nature and boats. According to the Daily Mail, Charles studied drawing with a teacher named Robert Waddell from a young age and was later tutored by two other British artists, Edward Seago and John Napier.

King Charles continues to paint to this day and has often spoken of his love of painting through watercolours of the surroundings of the royal residence and other beautiful scenes. Last year, during the King’s largest exhibition of paintings at The Garrison Chapel art gallery in Chelsea, west London, the King expressed that painting brings him such great relaxation that it “takes him into another dimension” of life.
