Foods to eat and avoid on hot days

During hot summer days, the body easily becomes dehydrated, loses minerals and becomes tired due to high temperatures. In addition, food is also more susceptible to spoilage and can easily lead to food poisoning if not properly preserved.

Choosing the right food and ensuring food safety is very important to maintain health in the summer. Pay attention to your diet on hot days to ensure health as well as prevent poisoning.

The Food Safety Department ( Ministry of Health ) provides instructions on hot summer dishes as follows:

- Foods with high water content : Watermelon, cucumber, orange, grapefruit, pineapple to help replenish water and vitamin C. Vegetable soup, thin soup, pennywort juice, fresh fruit juice help cool the body.

- Easily digestible foods such as porridge, pho, vermicelli, and soft rice to avoid putting pressure on the digestive system. Lean meat, fish, and tofu provide just enough protein without causing heat in the body.

- Green vegetables and beans , Malabar spinach, amaranth, water spinach, pennywort are rich in fiber, cooling the liver. Bean sprouts, green beans, black beans help cool down and detoxify.

- Yogurt and fermented foods help strengthen the digestive system, especially good in the summer when the risk of digestive disorders is higher.

During hot weather, you should eat and drink reasonably, eat many small meals a day to avoid digestive overload. Drink enough water (2 - 2.5 liters/day), prioritize filtered water and light electrolyte water.

Foods to avoid

Limit fried, spicy, greasy foods because they cause internal heat and bloating.

Avoid eating food left out at room temperature for a long time, especially foods that spoil easily such as seafood, eggs, and milk.

In addition, it is necessary to apply methods to ensure food safety on hot days.

- Choose fresh food with clear origin, buy food from reputable places, and refrigerate properly. Prioritize food with sealed packaging and clear expiration date.

- Proper storage: Fresh food should be kept in the freezer or refrigerator immediately after purchase. Cooked food should only be left at room temperature for no more than 2 hours. Use airtight containers, cover carefully, avoid contact with flies and insects.

- Prepare and cook food hygienically. Wash your hands before preparing food. Use separate knives and cutting boards for raw and cooked food. Cook thoroughly and avoid eating raw food in the summer.

When eating out or street food, keep in mind:

Avoid eating unhygienic street food. Prioritize reputable, clean restaurants that properly preserve food.

A reasonable diet and maintaining food hygiene and safety in the summer not only helps the body stay cool and healthy but also prevents dangerous diseases caused by food.
