The joy of having spacious and comfortable homes.

Tears and unspoken emotions filled Mrs. Vo Thi Bup (Hamlet 5, Duc Long Ward) on the day the local authorities held a ceremony to hand over her new house. Just a few months prior, Mrs. Bup and her family could hardly believe that their long-held dream of having a place to shelter from the sun and rain would ever come true. On this joyous day, neighbors offered their congratulations, understanding the hardships Mrs. Bup's family had endured living in their old, dilapidated house. The new house not only eased the burden of providing food, clothing, and shelter for Mrs. Bup's family but also served as support to help them continue their journey towards a better life.

Ms. Vo Thi Bup's household is one of seven households in Duc Long ward that benefited from the program. The total cost for the construction and renovation of all seven houses in this locality was 700 million VND. In Binh Hung ward, the implementation demonstrated high political determination and flexibility. The locality proposed and received approval for 19 households, including those with revolutionary merit, poor households, and near-poor households, completing the project in May. According to statistics, other localities throughout the city have completed this work. In reality, the completion of the housing support plan in the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is a very impressive continuation of the results achieved throughout the continuous efforts in social welfare work of the localities. This is not only due to the government but also the spirit of solidarity, responsibility, and compassion of all organizations in society. These houses are not only new homes but also the beginning of a brighter future for the households.

With utmost responsibility

According to a report by the Steering Committee for the implementation of the project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Phan Thiet City, by early June 2025, the city had completed the repair, construction, and handover of 82 houses to 82 households under the approved project, with a total cost of 5.95 billion VND. Of these, 14 houses belonged to families of war veterans, 16 to poor households, 25 to near-poor households, and 27 to other disadvantaged households.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Phan Thiet City, said that the program received strong support from the entire political system upon its implementation. From the city level down to the wards and communes, Steering Committees were established; local leaders directly supervised and were responsible for the progress of implementation. Throughout the process, everyone strived to complete their assigned tasks to the best of their ability. Ms. Ha also shared that the biggest difficulty in implementation was the legal obstacles. Some households lacked land or were living on land temporarily provided by relatives, grandparents, or parents, thus lacking the necessary basis for implementation. Another case involved the emergence of policy-beneficiary households, poor households, and disadvantaged households outside the scope of the project; the city focused its efforts on inspecting, reviewing, and classifying these cases specifically to find solutions. The ultimate goal was to ensure these households had a safe and secure home. In the coming period, the city will continue to lead and direct the review of disadvantaged households and households that have benefited from this policy to understand the situation and develop appropriate support plans.
