People who love the country

The name of each land from ancient times to the present is not simply an administrative symbol. It is the place that holds the memories and cultural identity of the community, and is also the source of emotions that each person will be "imprinted" and carry with them throughout their lives.

Quang Nam , like many other regions, with a name established more than half a millennium ago, contains within itself a deep flow of history.

Now, Quang Nam is being regretfully called by its name in the remaining days very slowly, before officially becoming a large part named Da Nang city.

In the midst of the many moods of the transitional days, the name of the homeland, which was thought to be an obvious and unchanging default, has moved and thrilled those who stay and those who leave. Because, a name is not simply a long-standing designation that goes through the years. In the depths of love, each person has their own characteristics, silently or excitedly, regretfully or joyfully… all reveal very special emotions.

A Quang Nam that is “loved and cherished” with its simple, honest, straightforward, and straightforward appearance is a part of the “specialty” of the Central region of the country. That simplicity could be the roughness of the “Quang accent” in Vietnamese, which seems to contain thousands of mistakes but is strangely intimate; the simple way of expressing feelings “You come back and sleep with your arms crossed/Where is the gratitude as thick as this”; the simple hospitality; the rustic dishes “young jackfruit sent down, flying fish sent up”...

In the regions such as Thanh, Nghe, Hue ..., perhaps Quang has also become a passionate banner with many beautiful ups and downs. Certainly, no one will deny the rationality in streamlining the administrative system to mobilize resources for national and ethnic development. But amidst those arrangements, no one who loves their homeland does not feel troubled and wish to preserve a part of the soul of their homeland.

I just want to silently observe and look forward to the way the people of Quang Nam love their homeland. In such a short time, the name of the province had to be changed, and the abolition of district-level administrative units and the renaming of communes and wards, like many other places across the country, was also a hot topic on forums and social networks.

When the district level no longer existed, many communes and wards were forced to merge, and familiar names suddenly changed. The silent rupture of identity forced each person to speak up.

Although we know that choosing a name that is appropriate to culture, history, and geography cannot and should not be based solely on the community's feelings, that love for the homeland, that passion, cannot be stopped.

No one opposes development or rejects the necessary arrangements of the times, but those who love their homeland find it difficult to let go of the name that has been associated with many generations of ancestors, with the language and way of thinking that are deeply ingrained in their blood and flesh.

Famous for being “arguing”, at this moment, that “arguing” is no longer simply a debate but a way of expressing feelings to find ways to keep what is unnecessary in exchange. It is the desire for development coupled with preservation, the desire to transform without losing the roots, bringing cultural depth and community identity.

Like many Quang people, I believe that tomorrow is coming very close with changes and challenges. The migration, though not far away, will probably have a significant impact on many people, many families and even the shape of the city and the countryside. Loving my homeland, I hope that after this great change, the name Quang Nam will no longer exist, but the signs of a well-formed land will remain forever...
