Which universities are assigned to train international-level human resources in 8 key fields?

To implement the Master Plan for training international-level human resources for the 2020-2035 period, Ho Chi Minh City has ordered universities to design and develop 9 component projects, corresponding to 8 majors training international-level human resources and 1 shared university project.

As of September 2023, 7/8 component projects have been contracted to implement tasks with a total budget of 8.3 billion VND. Universities assess the overall project as a large project with a long implementation period. The component projects all encountered difficulties in the early stages.

According to the progress report, the 8 majors training international-level human resources include: information technology - communications, mechanics - automation, artificial intelligence, business administration, finance - banking, healthcare, tourism, urban management.

In particular, the University of Science – VNU-HCM is responsible for training human resources in the field of Information Technology – Communications. The University of Technical Education – VNU-HCM trains human resources in the field of Mechanics – Automation. The University of Natural Sciences – VNU-HCM trains in the field of Artificial Intelligence. The University of Economics – VNU-HCM trains in the field of Business Administration and Finance – Banking. Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine trains in the field of Medicine. Saigon University trains in the field of Tourism. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities – VNU-HCM trains in the field of Urban Management and the University of Information Technology – VNU-HCM is in charge of the Shared University project.

Currently, in Ho Chi Minh City, there are 58 higher education institutions, including 3 public higher education institutions under the city; 40 public higher education institutions under ministries and branches and 15 private higher education institutions. In the past 5 years, higher education institutions have carried out 442 scientific and technological tasks. Higher education institutions have become an important resource contributing to the implementation of the city's programs and projects.

In 2023-2025, universities will urgently complete their science and technology tasks, research and propose solutions to obstacles in component projects that have not yet been signed, and develop human resource training plans. In the 2025-2035 period, universities will continue to implement international-level human resource training in 8 key fields and the shared university model, with a differentiated implementation roadmap for each field.

Mr. Phan Van Mai - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Universities in the city - said that the project of training human resources in 8 majors with international qualifications and the project of building Ho Chi Minh City into a regional and international human resource training center are two urgent tasks. In addition, Mr. Phan Van Mai suggested that schools must promote scientific research activities, thereby creating a basis for training high-quality human resources, becoming a regional and international human resource center.
