Ninh Hoa replicates the model of waste classification at home

The Women's Union of Ninh Dong commune launched the model of "Waste classification at home" in 2021, with 60 households in Quang Dong village participating. The union has promoted and instructed people to classify daily household waste; each family has 2 trash baskets and performs classification at home. Up to now, the model has been replicated in 5 branches with 1,017 participating households. The union also implemented the "Green House" model to collect and classify plastic waste to sell scrap to raise funds to help members in difficult circumstances. At the same time, the model of "Women going to the market with plastic baskets" was deployed in 5 branches; the "Women's Union of 5 no 3 clean to build new rural areas" was launched in Phuoc Thuan village, to promote members to maintain hygiene and prevent and combat plastic waste.

Ninh Dong Commune Women's Union launched the "Home composting" model and gave compost bins to participating families.

To improve the efficiency of waste classification, in 2024, the Women's Union of Ninh Dong commune implemented the model of "Composting at home" for members of the Chive Growing Association. From 15 initial members, the model now has 30 members participating. Ms. Doan Thi Tuyet Suong - Head of the Chive Growing Association said that in the past, after harvesting chives, members of the group would throw away the damaged leaves. Since implementing the model, households have taken advantage of these waste products to compost, contributing to environmental protection and having organic fertilizer to fertilize crops, saving costs.

In 2021, the Ninh Da Ward Women's Union mobilized members to classify waste at home to join hands in protecting the environment. Members were instructed to classify recyclable waste; waste used for composting; batteries and fluorescent bulbs were classified separately; other types of waste were disposed of in designated places. The activities were actively carried out by officials and members. The ward Women's Union also implemented the "Battery House" model to collect old batteries. In 2024, the union organized the program "Exchange old batteries for gifts" at the Women's Unions of Ha Thanh 2, Phuoc Da 3, Ha Thanh 1, and Tan Kieu residential groups. Members brought used batteries to exchange for a gift. After the program, many members and residents responded by bringing used batteries to the battery house for collection and treatment according to regulations.

From 2021 to now, 9/10 branches in Ninh Da ward have carried out the project "Protecting the environment - sharing love". From this project, the women have collected and classified plastic waste such as: Cans, bottles, jars, scrap paper, ... to sell to raise funds to support people in difficult circumstances. The total amount collected was 42.3 million VND, used to visit 175 sick members (200,000 VND/member), and donated 1,000 notebooks to 50 students in difficult circumstances in the ward. Two branches of women's associations in Ha Thanh 1 and Ha Thanh 2 residential groups have established a "Women composting green manure" group with 25 members. The branches donated 25 plastic bins to households participating in composting. Members take advantage of household waste such as: Vegetables, fruit peels, ... to compost into green manure to fertilize flowers and ornamental plants.

Contribute to environmental protection

The Women's Union of Ninh Hoa town has launched the model of "Waste classification at home" in the communes of Ninh Phung, Ninh Phu, Ninh Trung, Ninh Quang. In particular, the model in Ninh Quang commune has been implemented since April 2024 with 60 households in Tan Quang village participating. The Union has organized propaganda about plastic waste, instructed members on how to classify waste at home and gave each household 3 trash cans for waste classification. Through activities and meetings, the Women's Union of Tan Quang village continues to mobilize, propagate and replicate the model to households in the village. To date, 125 households have participated in the model. Thereby, raising awareness, changing behaviors and habits of waste classification in households.

In Ninh Trung commune, the model was deployed in June 2023 in Thach Dinh village with 60 participating households. In March 2025, the Ninh Trung Women's Union continued to launch the model "Collecting and classifying waste at source" with 20 members. At the launching ceremony, the union organized propaganda, instructed 60 members and women in the commune to classify waste properly and gave 40 trash cans for families to classify waste at home. Branches and women's groups directly went to the homes of some households to mobilize and instruct people to classify waste at home and collect waste in the right place. From there, spread and replicate the model, contributing to the construction of new rural areas and civilized urban areas...

Ms. Huynh Thi Ngoc Diem - President of the Women's Union of Ninh Hoa town said that in recent times, all levels of the association in the town have done a good job of disseminating and guiding members to classify waste at home through many practical activities and models. Thereby, helping to properly handle waste, reduce the amount of waste released into the environment, and utilize organic waste for composting and fertilizing plants. In the coming time, all levels of the association will continue to replicate the model so that more households can participate in classifying household waste at home, contributing to environmental protection and joining hands in building new rural areas.
