An explosion possibly caused by a gas leak has collapsed a building in central Paris, injuring 29 people and causing extensive damage in the capital's 5th arrondissement, French officials say.
According to prosecutors, as of the evening of June 21 (local time), rescue workers were still searching the rubble for two missing people who had not been identified. Police said 29 people were injured, including four in critical condition.
The explosion caused a large fire that caused a building to collapse. Many windows in surrounding houses within a radius of 400 meters were broken.
About 70 fire engines and 270 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. French authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Earlier, on Twitter, a local official in District 5 said the cause of the explosion was a "gas explosion", however other officials have not confirmed this./.
