Efforts to reduce child marriage and incestuous marriage

Contest to propagate the reduction of early marriage and incestuous marriage in ethnic minority areas in 2024 at Xuan Du Secondary School.

Having the opportunity to attend the contest of propaganda to reduce TH&HNCHT in ethnic minority areas at Xuan Du Secondary School (Nhu Thanh) of 4 teams representing students in grades 8 and 9. Through 5 contests (greeting, accumulation, drawing propaganda - agitation pictures, eloquence and contest for cheerleaders), students learned about knowledge and consequences of TH&HNCHT; policies and laws related to the Law on Marriage and Family... Participating in the contest, the students all expressed excitement and interest.

Student Hoang Thi Lien shared: “This is an important communication event, with practical significance for young people, especially students, helping us gain more knowledge about TH&HNCHT; and have the skills to protect ourselves against this problem.”

To minimize the situation of TH&HNCHT, Nhu Thanh district has mobilized the participation of the entire political system. In particular, the priority of propaganda solutions is placed on top - considering this an important solution in the ethnic minority area. Every year, based on the province's plan, the district has developed a plan to organize propaganda activities; built 2 model schools at Nhu Thanh II High School and Nhu Thanh Secondary and High School; organized communication talks at high schools, ethnic boarding schools and Xuan Thai Secondary School for 6,428 students; organized club activities to prevent and combat child marriage at the district's Ethnic Boarding Secondary School... Thereby, contributing to raising awareness and limiting the situation of child marriage in ethnic minority areas.

In 2024, Nhu Thanh district organized 24 adolescent and youth reproductive health club activities on TH&HNCHT in Thanh Ky, Xuan Phuc, Can Khe, Thanh Tan, Mau Lam, Phuong Nghi, Hai Long, Xuan Khang, Xuan Du, Phu Nhuan, Xuan Thai, Yen Lac communes, to provide knowledge on premarital reproductive health, safe contraception, gynecological disease prevention and treatment, infertility prevention and treatment, safe motherhood, parental responsibility, raising healthy children, raising good children, risks of giving birth to children with disabilities, risks of infertility due to early marriage and incest, with 1,200 participants.

Implementing the Project "Reducing the situation of TH&HNCHT in ethnic minority areas in the period of 2021-2025", the district has promoted propaganda and mobilization work, creating consensus in society to change the awareness, behavior, consciousness, and responsibility of people in ethnic minority areas in implementing legal regulations on marriage and family, on reducing TH&HNCHT; effectively implementing propaganda work through training conferences, thematic talks, contests (dramatization), cultural and artistic exchanges, propaganda through leaflets, billboards, posters, and propaganda handbooks on TH&HNCHT prevention.

Talking with Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nhu Thanh district, Le Ngoc Hoa learned that: Marriage and family planning not only causes loss of opportunities for education and employment, negatively affects the health of mothers and children, but also reduces population quality and is a "barrier" to the socio-economic development goals of the locality. Recognizing this situation, in the coming time, the district will continue to promote propaganda and dissemination of legal regulations related to marriage and family, marriage and family planning; organize competitions, talks, club activities, intervention consultations, etc., to raise awareness, gradually change behavior towards ending marriage and family planning, contributing to improving population quality and human resources for ethnic minorities.
