Here, revive a temple

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - According to the book "Dong Khanh Geography", Dong Bong village, Ha Tien commune, Ha Trung district, formerly belonged to Dong Bong commune, Nam Ban canton, Tong Son district, Ha Trung prefecture, Thanh Hoa province. The cave temple was formed naturally, close to the location of Dong Bong pagoda (named after the village) built on the slope of Tuong Son mountain around the 16th century - a Buddhist relic worshiping Buddha Shakyamuni, at the foot of the mountain is Ha temple.

The relic is located in the Tuong Son Mountain Scenic Area, including 7 mountains and valleys connected together in a space of 112 hectares, of which 61 hectares are rocky mountains and 59.9 hectares are rice fields surrounding the mountain range. Dong Bong Pagoda has been ranked by the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province, in Decision No. 178/QD-UBND, dated January 20, 2010.

The ancient Dong Bong pagoda has a construction scale of 5 front rooms, 1 back room with curved roof architecture. This is an ancient architectural work of the late Le dynasty, having a worthy position in the dense complex of relics (communal houses, pagodas, temples, shrines, steles...) naturally scattered in Ha Tien commune. After many years of "water erosion, stone erosion", "change of things and stars", many relics are no longer "standing the test of time"... the ancient Dong Bong pagoda has deteriorated and is now a pile of ruins. The only remaining original traces and relics are the foundation, bricks, tiles, stone pillars, stone pillar bases, some pieces of pottery... scattered around the relic area.

On the rocky mountain range in front of the temple cave, there is still a Tran Dynasty stele, 0.85cm high, 0.60cm wide, of the "Ma nhai" type, with faint letters, the stele's forehead is arched and embossed with "two dragons worshipping the moon" in the style of a twisted dragon, with a writhing body, mane and claws clearly visible.

On the surface of the stele are four large characters: “Bong Son Am Cave”. The stele was erected by a contemporary on February 1, Canh Dan year, Thieu Phong year 10 (1350) under the reign of King Tran Du Tong (1336 – 1369), the 7th emperor of the Tran dynasty of Dai Viet.

The words are engraved on the stele in Chinese and Nom characters, recording the donation of land to the pagoda... Researching this stele will contribute to supplementing the official historical documents about a period of brilliant development of architectural art during the Ly - Tran dynasties in Thanh Hoa in general and Ha Trung district in particular.

With the generosity of believers and people in the village and commune, especially the attention and support of the Party Committee, the government, and the cultural sector, in which the main role was played by Nun Thich Chuc That (real name Bui Thi Gam), a daughter of the village, who has made a charitable donation, mobilizing people to donate "one cup, one deposit" from each person to restore the pagoda. Dong Bong Pagoda is still simple, but in any case, it meets part of the daily religious and Buddhist needs of Buddhist monks and nuns, people in and outside the commune... contributing to enriching spiritual life.

Here, revive a temple

This is a destination with many interesting hidden potentials that are being "awakened". Tourists have the opportunity to make a pilgrimage to admire the majestic natural ecological landscape, learn, explore , and let their souls soar to admire "Ha Long Bay on land", "reverse-eyed bamboo", and enjoy "stuffed snail rolls in bamboo tubes"...

In the coming time, the investment in renovating and embellishing the rich and diverse system of scenic relics in Ha Tien commune, the scenic complex of Tuong Son Mountain and Dong Bong pagoda relics... together with exploiting and promoting the inherent advantages, will gradually meet the needs of cultural, spiritual and religious life of the people, especially during village festivals, festivals and major local events.
