The cultural center in Hamlet 5, Ho Vuong Commune, was built primarily with funds contributed by the local people.
For a long time, the cultural center of Hamlet 5, Ho Vuong Commune, has become a familiar "meeting place" for many people in community activities. Morning or afternoon, people gather here, their laughter and chatter filling the space, creating a warm and close-knit atmosphere. Mr. Tran Van The, Party branch secretary and head of the Fatherland Front committee of Hamlet 5, said: “Hamlet 5 has 352 households with 1,530 inhabitants, of which Catholics account for 93%. Previously, holding meetings and organizing community activities was difficult, mainly requiring borrowing space from households with large areas. To have a place for meetings as well as organizing recreational activities, sports, and exercise , in 2006 the hamlet built a cultural center mainly through social contributions with a total cost of 350 million VND. At the same time, the hamlet also continued to invest in purchasing more tables, chairs, sound systems, speakers, etc., to better meet the needs of the people.”
Since the village cultural center was built, people have been attending meetings more regularly, and cultural, artistic, and sports activities have also developed in both scale and quality. In 2023, with support from the province, the former Nga Son district, and contributions from the people in building model new rural villages, the cultural center of village 5 was renovated with items such as building a fence, laying red brick paving in the yard, and repainting the cultural center... with a total cost of 550 million VND.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thai, a villager, shared: “The village cultural center is well-built, clean, and fully equipped with cultural facilities. People are very happy to come here to read books and participate in cultural and artistic activities, as well as sports. Adults participate in intergenerational clubs, men's volleyball, and health exercises, while children come to play, swing, and seesaw... Morning or afternoon, the village cultural center is always bustling with the voices and laughter of the villagers, it's very joyful. Through these activities, not only is health improved, but neighborly bonds are strengthened, and everyone in the village is more connected.”
Ho Vuong commune was formed by merging the communes of Nga Hai, Nga Thanh, Nga Giap, and Nga Lien. After the merger, 100% of the villages in the commune have cultural centers and sports facilities. Recognizing culture as the foundation of development, the commune always focuses on promoting the values of grassroots cultural institutions in conjunction with improving the lives of its people. Over the past period, the commune has maintained and improved the effectiveness of the village cultural centers from the pre-merger communes. At the same time, it has effectively implemented the motto: "The people know, the people discuss, the people do, the people inspect, the people benefit" to mobilize the people's efforts and contributions in renovating and upgrading the cultural institution system.
To date, all 28 village cultural centers have been invested in and built to be spacious and well-equipped with tables, chairs, sound systems, and sports equipment such as volleyball nets, badminton rackets, pull-up bars, parallel bars, swings, seesaws, etc., to attract people to participate in activities and exercise. In addition, supporting facilities have also been invested in, better meeting the cultural and spiritual needs of the people.
Mr. Tong Thanh Minh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Vuong Commune, said: "Promoting the value of grassroots cultural institutions in conjunction with improving the lives of the people is one of the key tasks that the commune always focuses on. Ho Vuong Commune will balance its budget to invest in and upgrade the system of village cultural institutions in the area; at the same time, organize many rich and creative activities, linked to patriotic emulation movements and the New Rural Development program. In addition, the commune promotes the socialization of culture, effectively exploits cultural institutions, and regularly organizes cultural and artistic activities, physical education and sports, contributing to meeting the needs for cultural enjoyment, health training and creating a healthy playground for the people."
The focus on investing in and effectively developing cultural and sports facilities has contributed to deepening the "All People Unite to Build a Culturally Rich Life" movement in Ho Vuong commune. These activities not only create a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere, attracting a large number of people to participate, but also strengthen community bonds, foster a spirit of solidarity, and encourage collective effort to build a more prosperous, beautiful, and civilized homeland.
