After harvesting, Ms. Nhung packages and sends the goods to agents in and outside the province.

Ms. Tong Thi Nhung was born in 1978, in Kim Bang village (Son Bang commune). Born into a farming family, she understands better than anyone the hardships of the job of "selling your face to the ground, selling your back to the sky". In 1997, Ms. Nhung married Mr. Nguyen Truong Lam, born in 1970, from the same village.

In 2000, seeing that the 4-acre plot of land in the village had been abandoned for many years, the couple asked to rent it to grow short-term crops such as corn, peanuts, beans, etc. Although they were very hard-working and worked hard for many years in the fields, which were considered a "water bag" during the rainy season, they only had enough to eat every day.

In 2019, when they happened to watch the "Farmers Get Rich" program on TV, which mentioned many economic models of growing Taiwanese guava that brought high economic efficiency in the northern provinces, they had the idea of following suit.

“Thinking is doing, and after surveying the climate and soil conditions in those places, they are similar to the areas where we cultivate, so we feel confident. Thanks to relatives' help, my husband and I ordered 200 seedlings worth 5 million VND to plant... to try it out" - Ms. Nhung recalled. After a few crops, Taiwanese guava trees brought joy to her family as the economic efficiency was much higher than previous crops.

The leaders of the Farmers' Association of Son Bang commune regularly check and encourage Ms. Nhung's family to develop the model.

According to Ms. Nhung, growing Taiwanese guava is not too fussy or complicated, but growers must regularly prune branches and tops so that the tree flowers and bears fruit. At the same time, ensure enough water for irrigation as well as pay attention to organic fertilizer. In particular, growers must regularly monitor the development of pests and diseases. When stink bugs appear on the leaves, they must immediately use biological products to treat them, otherwise the leaves will dry out and not bear fruit. Thanks to following the technical process, many of her guava trees yield 15-20 kg/crop.

From 200 guava trees planted on an area of 4 sao, up to now, the couple has expanded to 4.5 hectares, with more than 3,200 trees. Harvesting twice a year, each time from 15-18 tons, with selling prices ranging from 17,000 - 20,000 VND/kg, the family earns no less than 600 million VND/year. Currently, her guava is present in many provinces and cities across the country.

Although it's the end of the season, Ms. Nhung's guava garden still has a lot of fruit.

In addition to growing guava for fruit and selling seedlings (300-400 trees/year) to local people, Ms. Nhung also raises 4 cows and 7 deer for fertilizer to grow guava. In 2025, Ms. Nhung registered to build an OCOP brand for her guava products, thanks to which, product consumption is more convenient.

President of the Farmers' Association of Son Bang Commune, Tran Thi Hoai Thuong, said: Thanks to their boldness and daring in transforming the production model, Nhung and her husband's income is among the highest in the locality. The Farmers' Association of the commune always accompanies Nhung's family in consuming products through the association's Facebook and Zalo channels...

Ms. Nhung uses plastic bags to cover guava fruit to prevent insects from damaging the fruit.

“In addition to bringing income to her family, Ms. Nhung also creates monthly jobs for 4-5 local workers with an income of 4-5 million VND/person/month. Ms. Nhung's economic model is not only a study destination for delegations when they come to Son Bang commune, but also contributes greatly to increasing the average income of workers in Son Bang commune to 50 million VND/person/year. In particular, Ms. Nhung's guava gardens also help the locality complete the criteria of each commune, each OCOP product in building new rural areas by 2025" - Chairman of Son Bang Commune People's Committee Ho Xuan Dung said.
