Boldly applying technology to cultivation and animal husbandry, in recent years, farmers in the province have taken advantage of opportunities, creating momentum to promote the agricultural sector to break through and develop. In particular, many models have been invested in on a large scale, systematically, with high added value, which is the source to help the economy of rural areas constantly flourish.
Thanks to the application of technology in production, off-season dragon fruit brings a good income to farmers in Lap Thach district.
In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year 2025, the atmosphere at the dragon fruit farm of Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang's family, Van Trung village, Ngoc My commune (Lap Thach) is always bustling. In addition to the cheerful laughter of workers focusing on taking care of the plants, there is also the presence of traders coming to place orders to serve the Tet market.
Thanks to the application of technology, using light bulbs to stimulate dragon fruit to flower out of season, extending the dragon fruit season by 2 months compared to usual, Mr. Hoang's family's dragon fruit farm has become a reputable supplier of red-fleshed dragon fruit every Tet holiday.
Mr. Hoang shared: To stimulate dragon fruit trees to flower out of season, in addition to basic care techniques, it is necessary to install a modern lighting system, an automatic irrigation system, and closely monitor the growth process of the tree.
Especially with the harsh climate conditions of the North near Tet, the temperature difference between day and night is very large, growers need to take timely measures to protect flowers and fruits during the development process, and time the flowers to bloom so that the fruits ripen in time for Tet. Although it takes more effort, the demand of the consumer market is very large, the selling price is 1.5 - 2 times higher than the main season, bringing significant economic benefits to farmers.
Passionate about and pursuing clean and organic agriculture , Mr. Tran Duy Hung has researched and learned many snail farming models from the South to the North, selected advanced techniques, and applied solutions suitable for the climate and soil conditions in the low-lying areas of Trung Kien commune (Yen Lac).
With youthful enthusiasm and creativity, Mr. Hung has revived more than 4 hectares of agricultural land that is often flooded and difficult to cultivate, turning this land into a large-scale snail farm, with an output of 15 - 20 tons/year, supplying the market with hundreds of thousands of snail seeds, earning billions of dong each year.
Not keeping his job, Mr. Hung is always willing to share his experience, helping many farmers in the province to renovate their ponds, gradually expanding the snail farming area, bringing new economic prospects to difficult areas.
From the project of breeding and commercial farming of giant freshwater prawn under the program of Supporting the application and transfer of scientific and technological advances to promote economic and social development in mountainous rural areas and ethnic minority areas in the period of 2016 - 2025 with technological support from the Aquaculture Research Institute II, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , Hoang Hai Investment and Trading Joint Stock Company (Phuc Yen) has effectively implemented the model of breeding and commercial farming of giant freshwater prawn in Ba Go village, Trung My commune (Binh Xuyen), initially achieving many positive results.
During the project implementation, the company organized many training courses, successfully transferring shrimp farming techniques to a number of people, among whom there were households that boldly learned and tried new techniques with initial success, opening up a new direction for high-tech agriculture, exploiting the potential advantages of the Central American region.
The commercial snail farming model in Trung Kien commune (Yen Lac) opens up economic development prospects for low-lying rice growing areas with low efficiency.
It can be seen that in recent years, many policies and mechanisms to support farmers from the Central and the province have really come into life. Combined with the spirit of learning and self-reliance, Vinh Phuc farmers have been constantly innovating and successfully applying many intensive farming techniques in cultivation and animal husbandry, creating abundant food sources, ensuring quality and safety, meeting the increasing needs of consumers. Many products of Vinh Phuc farmers have reached the level of 3-star, 4-star, and even 5-star OCOP products at the provincial level.
That is the practical basis for forming production linkage chains, ensuring output for agricultural products, enhancing the position of Vinh Phuc farmers and the province's agricultural sector. Up to now, the province has built 28 models of production and consumption chains for safe agricultural, forestry and fishery products, including 18 production and consumption chains for safe vegetables, mushrooms, and red-fleshed dragon fruit of enterprises and cooperatives; 4 production and consumption chains for safe pork and chicken; 2 food production and supply chains (ham, sausage, banh chung) and 1 production and supply chain for dairy products; 1 production and supply chain for beef products; 1 production and supply chain for Tam Dao golden flower tea products; 1 chicken egg chain.
In 2024, although the province's agricultural sector faced many difficulties and suffered heavy damage due to the impact of storm No. 3 (Yagi), the province's GRDP growth rate of agriculture, forestry and fishery (2010 comparable prices) still reached 1.5 - 1.6% compared to 2023, contributing positively to the province's economic growth rate, contributing to ensuring food security goals, promoting economic development in rural areas, improving income and material life for people.
