Coming to Kha Nghiu village, Pung Banh commune these days, from early morning, people have been going to the fields to weed and fertilize corn and cassava. Ms. Lo Thi Tam, Kha Nghiu village, shared: My family has nearly 2 hectares of upland land, planting 1.5 hectares of cassava, the rest is corn. The commune's agricultural and forestry officers have guided me on how to select and cut cassava seeds and treat corn seeds before planting and the appropriate time to fertilize, thanks to which the plants have grown well.
This year, Pung Banh commune planted 1,100 hectares of cassava, corn, soybeans, and peanuts, mainly in the villages of Lieng, Huoi Hin, and Huoi Cop. Hybrid corn varieties with high yield and quality, such as NK 7328, DK 9901... are drought-resistant, lodging-resistant, have large cobs, and meet commodity standards, and are chosen by local people for planting. In addition, the commune has promoted and mobilized people to convert low-yield corn and upland rice areas to coffee cultivation in the villages of Phai, Lau, and Keo Hin...
In Sam Kha commune, up to now, people have completed planting over 250 hectares of high-yield cassava, 790 hectares of upland rice, concentrated in Pu Sut, Sam Kha, Huoi Pho villages... Mr. Thao A Co, Chairman of Sam Kha Commune People's Committee, said: Right from the beginning of the year, the Commune People's Committee has assigned targets for planting upland crops for each village; propagandized and guided people to clear and burn upland fields properly, not causing forest fires, not encroaching on forestry land; mobilized people to mechanize weeding and tilling with machines suitable to the characteristics of local cultivated land. Currently, the whole commune has 25 tractors, more than 200 grass cutters, reducing labor and increasing crop productivity. In addition, the commune directed mass organizations, especially the Commune Farmers' Association to cooperate with companies supplying seeds and fertilizers to people to ensure the quality and productivity of crops.
To ensure the production of crops on the fields, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Sop Cop district has coordinated with communes to propagate and mobilize people to put new varieties into production. In particular, the main ones are corn LVN10, NK7328, DK9901; high-yield cassava varieties KM94, KM 95, KM98-7, upland rice varieties LC93-1, tan nuong... At the same time, guide people to buy materials and fertilizers at reputable agricultural service companies and cooperatives. Direct the District Agricultural Service Center to send staff to directly propagate and guide people to use pesticides and fertilizers properly, collect packaging after use, and limit the use of herbicides.
Mr. Lo Van Thai, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Sop Cop district, said: The crops on the fields are growing and developing well. To proactively prevent and control pests and diseases that harm crops, the department has actively coordinated with specialized agencies and the Commune People's Committee to closely monitor the situation, regularly make forecasts; delimit areas where pests and diseases appeared last year, and promptly and effectively implement preventive measures right from the beginning of the season.
With the active support of professional agencies and the initiative of farmers in Sop Cop district, we continue to expect more bumper crops, contributing to increasing people's income.
