Farmers collect peach trees to regenerate after Tet

Việt NamViệt Nam01/03/2024

At this time, peach gardeners are taking advantage of the time to collect and care for peach trees after the Tet holiday of customers. The sunny weather after Tet is very favorable for the tree's recovery process.

Coming to the peach gardens in Group 8, Song Bang Ward (City), we saw the bustling atmosphere of transporting peach trees to the garden for care.

The work of collecting peach trees after Tet usually starts on the 10th of January and ends about 20 days later. However, in order to be able to choose beautiful peach trees, some collectors start from the 6th or 7th. According to the experience of peach growers, peach trees have 4 growth stages: winter dormancy, spring budding, so the best time to care for and restore peach trees is before the beginning of spring every year (January - February of the lunar calendar). In case the land is not prepared in time, planting can be done in March - April, but the later the planting, the slower the growth rate of the tree and that year will not yield beautiful flowers.

The peach trees are rented by agencies and households to play for a long time during Tet. When they are returned to the garden, they need to undergo a root recovery process to gradually adapt and grow well. Therefore, from the 7th to now, gardeners in the province have urgently purchased the peach trees displayed after Tet to replant.

With 16 years of experience in growing peach trees, Mr. Hoang Khanh Tung, Group 8, Song Bang Ward (City) said: Taking advantage of the beautiful sunny days after Tet, I collected and planted more than 150 new peach trees, in the coming days I will continue to collect peach trees to plant. In addition, my garden takes care of some peach trees from customers at prices from 500 - 1.5 million VND/tree/year. With the increasing demand for Tet peach trees of the people, my family will expand the land fund to take care of more peach trees from customers. Hopefully this year the weather will be favorable, the peach trees will bloom on time so that people can sell them at high prices.

The process of caring for peach trees after Tet is very elaborate, requiring the caretaker to invest a lot of time and effort. For old peach trees, due to the display process, they are often not cared for, watered or provided with enough nutrients, so replanting requires more care. After bringing the peach trees to the garden, the first step is to make the tree fresh again. Each peach tree will be kept in the shade, the branches and leaves will be cut, watered, and after a few days, the soil will be lowered and the pots will be planted.

About a month before planting, the soil must be broken up and cleared of weeds. Make a 1 m wide bed, 25 - 30 cm high, 30 cm wide trench (depending on the size of the tree). When digging holes for the tree, if the lower soil layer is solid (clay, laterite, etc.), dig a wider hole instead of digging deep; if the soil is poor and nutrient-poor, dig a larger hole. To ensure that the peach tree grows and develops well, soil preparation is the most important step, because peach trees cannot withstand waterlogged environments, so the soil for planting peach trees must be chosen in high, open places, and must be made into high beds. Peach gardens should be arranged next to or near a water source, proactively watered in dry conditions, have good drainage ditches, and prevent waterlogging during the rainy season.

Along with preparing loose soil, 7-10 days before planting, peach growers often apply a layer of anti-termite medicine to kill pathogens in the soil. Along with that, all branches are pruned to concentrate nutrients for the tree to recover quickly, quickly sprout new buds, remove some excess branches, diseased branches, too weak branches, messy branches, keep healthy branches, suitable for shaping requirements, shape the tree to create peach trees as desired. Peach trees need a balance of humidity and light; too much sun will cause the tree to wither, too much rain will cause the tree to be waterlogged, and root rot will also damage it.

After about a month of replanting, when the peach tree has recovered and taken root, ensuring it can survive in the garden soil, the peach grower will dig a trench around it and apply manure such as pig manure, rotten chicken manure or organic microbial fertilizer so that the fertilizer can seep into the roots, providing nutrients for the tree.

To prevent typical pests of peach trees such as stem borers, branch borers, red spiders, white mealybugs, leaf curls, etc., peach growers always have to spray pesticides on the trees in a timely manner. For one flowering season, they have to spray dozens of different pesticides. Thanks to their long-term experience in caring for peach trees, the peach trees of gardeners in Group 8, Song Bang Ward (City) always bloom with full, fresh, and colorful flowers.
