People's Artist Thu Hien: "With every melody praising the country, I sing with all my heart"

Participating in the program “The Party in the Great Spring Victory” season 2 at Ho Guom Theater on the evening of April 28, People's Artist Thu Hien felt moved and emotional when once again singing the immortal melodies of “Cau ho ben bo Hien Luong” – a song associated with the tragic historical memories of the nation.

After the success in Da Nang, the special art program “The Party in the Great Spring Victory” season 2 will take place at 8:00 p.m. on April 28, at Ho Guom Theater (Hanoi) and broadcast live on VTV1 - Vietnam Television. The program is organized by the Ministry of Public Security and sponsored by Sun Group to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), towards the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the People's Public Security sector (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025).

The program features the participation of leading artists, golden voices who have been deeply attached to Vietnamese revolutionary music such as: People's Artist Thu Hien, People's Artist Quang Tho, People's Artist Trung Duc; Meritorious Artist Dang Duong, Meritorious Artist Vu Thang Loi, Meritorious Artist Pham Khanh Ngoc, Meritorious Artist Lan Anh and beloved young singers such as: Tung Duong, Dao To Loan, Le Anh Dung, Dong Hung, Viet Danh, Bao Yen, Thanh Chuong with Thanh Phuong band and the accompaniment of the Sun Symphony Orchestra (SSO).

People's Artist Thu Hien: "Every time I sing revolutionary songs, it brings me a feeling of pride"

For an artist who has been through war and crossed the line between life and death like People's Artist Thu Hien, the times she gets to sing revolutionary songs again really bring indescribable feelings of pride. People's Artist Thu Hien confided that she was extremely moved when she was the first singer to sing the Unification Song 50 years ago and after half a century, she had the opportunity to stand at the Independence Palace and sing this song again.

Each song and melody praising the country is sung by artists with all their hearts. Participating in the special art program "The Party in the great spring victory" to celebrate the great national holiday, once again People's Artist Thu Hien sang the immortal melodies of Cau Ho on the banks of Hien Luong . " I have had many memories with this song. Since its birth in 1957, the time when Ben Hai River divided the country into two regions, the song Cau Ho on the banks of Hien Luong has remained intact with its strong vitality until today" , People's Artist Thu Hien confided.

The melodies of the song once followed the golden voice into the battlefield, to Vinh Linh, down to Vinh Moc tunnel. People's Artist Thu Hien was moved: " I once sang the melodies of "Cau ho ben bo Hien Luong" in a very special context. Not on the bridge, but singing on the riverbank, under the tunnel, standing on this side of the river to express my feelings for the people on the other side. There were times when I sang under the tunnel, without a microphone but only with a kerosene lamp, a hurricane lamp, the melodies forever permeated my heart, never to be forgotten...".

Artists and audiences were moved when revolutionary songs were played at the program "The Party in the Great Spring Victory" in Da Nang.

People's Artist Thu Hien confided that, having experienced the fierce and painful war, the artist is more deeply aware of the value of life today . " Back then, we sang for the longing and nostalgia, singing when the two banks of the South and the North were facing each other, between the extremely fierce line of life and death. I still remember when I was on the Ben Hai River, singing to the other side of the Citadel through a loudspeaker, without music, without harmony or arrangement like now . "

Bringing the song that has become a memorable mark to the program “The Party in the Great Spring Victory”, for People’s Artist Thu Hien, it was an opportunity for her to relive the most sacred emotions in her life. At the age of 73, the artist confided that although she is no longer as flexible as before, having the opportunity to sing these songs again, she feels extremely happy.

Singer Dao To Loan: Wishing to convey and spread gratitude to the previous generation through her voice

Melodies that go with the years, with sacred emotions, are the link between generations of artists, from veteran faces to talented young voices like singer Dao To Loan. In the show, To Loan will perform the song " Dong Nguoi tieng hat mua xuan" , a composition by musician Nguyen Van Thuong, arranged by musician Tran Manh Hung. This is a very special work, not only because of its passionate, profound melody but also because of its noble meaning of dedicating beautiful springs to the Fatherland.

“As a young artist born in peace , Loan hopes that through her performance, her peers will feel gratitude towards the previous generation – those who sacrificed so that we can have a free and independent life today. History is not only in books but also present in every song, every melody,” the female singer confided.

As a young artist in the Opera/Chamber music genre, for To Loan, singing revolutionary music is always a special challenge: “ Those songs carry within them historical depth, intense emotions and heroic spirit that any artist needs to wholeheartedly convey. To Loan always tries to keep the spirit of the song intact, while bringing in a new breath, a different color thanks to classical vocal techniques. I believe that this combination not only renews familiar songs but can also touch the hearts of young audiences, helping them feel the liveliness and closeness of revolutionary music” .

The fusion of national identity and cultural exchange

Another special mark of the music night was the harmony and connection between the symphony orchestra and Vietnamese revolutionary songs. Sun Symphony Orchestra (SSO) conductor Olivier Ochanine acknowledged that Vietnamese revolutionary music carries within it historical depth and intense emotions. These songs were composed during the arduous periods of the Vietnamese people, and that spirit was clearly conveyed through each melody.

“Although the musical language of these works is different from that of Western symphonies, it is precisely this contrast that creates a special power when performed in a concert space. They open a unique door to approach the cultural identity and history of Vietnam. The resonance between traditional Vietnamese singing and symphonic music interpretation is not only an artistic performance, but also a symbol of the harmony between national identity and the spirit of cultural exchange. It is this combination that creates a profound emotion, touching the hearts of listeners in a very special way,” said conductor Olivier Ochanine.

People's Artist Thu Hien has participated in countless large art programs, but singing with the Sun Symphony Orchestra was a new and exciting experience for her. “ Before, on the battlefield, we sang without music, without microphones, even using butter tubes. Later, we sang with wired microphones, wireless microphones, and sang with a traditional orchestra. Now, I get to sing with a large, modern Symphony Orchestra... That is a completely new urge for me, ” People's Artist Thu Hien shared.

Previously, on March 28, the special art program "The Party in the Great Spring Victory" season 1 took place with great success in Da Nang, leaving a deep impression on the audience.
