Meritorious Artist Viet Hoan, 59 years old: "If I meet the right person, I will get married again"

(Dan Tri) - Singer Viet Hoan and his ex-wife divorced in a civilized manner. He said that he is enjoying his free life, but if the time comes, he is willing to marry again.

"I'm 59 years old, I can't be more famous"

You once said, music has given you many things?

- My parents worked at the Thai Binh Opera Troupe, so I have a talent for art. After finishing high school, the Hai Phong City Police recruited mass art personnel. I took the exam and was accepted into the Hai Phong City Police Art Troupe.

After that, I competed in many festivals and performances. At that time, I met Ms. Le Dung and Mr. Tran Hoan. Seeing that I sang well, Ms. Le Dung encouraged me to take the entrance exam to the Hanoi Conservatory of Music (now the Vietnam National Academy of Music), after that I went to work at the Voice of Vietnam Theater .

At the Vietnam National Academy of Music, I met Mr. Quang Tho, who was the one who connected Trong Tan, Dang Duong, and Viet Hoan together, creating the red music trio we have today.

It's true that music has given me many things, from fame to friends, a prosperous life. The audience also knows Viet Hoan more through music.

People say, now Viet Hoan no longer cares about salary?

- I never ask for a high price, it's always been like that. Usually when I participate in programs, I let the organizers take the initiative in this matter.

When meeting Viet Hoan, many people say he is relaxed and does not have star disease?

- My mother is a cai luong artist, she often says that "an artist who is loved is proud, if you are arrogant you will be hated".

I think that singing is just one of many professions in society. Good doctors are admired, good teachers are also loved by many people. Therefore, we should be humble with everyone.

There was a time when you took on 20 shows a month? Is that many now?

- There was a time when I received more than 20 shows a month, but now it's much less. There are months when I only have 5-6 shows, but the treatment of the audience allows a mainstream music artist like me to "survive".

Currently, I don't accept many schedules anymore. There are many events that invite me to attend, even though there is a salary, I still don't participate.

When I was young, everyone was busy working. I used to stay up until 2am or 5am, but when I had children, I paid attention to my schedule and played sports. Now that I am older, I pay more attention to my health.

You are 59 years old this year. How are you preparing for your life when you are about to... retire?

- I have planned to sing only until I am 60 years old and then... slow down. After retiring from Voice of Vietnam, I will have more time for myself, travel, and hang out with friends more.

After that, I might still appear on stage but as a guest in a special program and not perform many shows. I will also consider singing on small stages and celebration parties.

It's not that I'm picky, but I want the audience to remember Viet Hoan as a soulful, passionate voice, and an image at his best.

I'm 59 years old, I probably won't be famous anymore. At a certain age, artists will get old, their vocal cords will also age, sag, their voice will not be like when they were young, so I will stop at the right time.

Living in a 10,000m2 garden house, often singing and attending events, do you have time to take care of the plants?

- Many years ago, I bought only about 1,700 square meters of land for my family to live in, but the place was a bit small, I only planted 4 big trees and almost used up the entire area.

At that time, my friends gave me many trees, so I bought a 10,000m2 plot of land in Thach That (Hanoi) to live, relax, and plant many trees.

I am a person who knows how to enjoy life, so I still have time to take care of myself and the hills. I also love freedom and nature, so I will stay here and not move to the city center anymore.

The male singer admitted that he is a romantic person.

People say Viet Hoan is very rich, has houses and land everywhere?

- Being rich and a tycoon is a lot, we should be content with ourselves. Compared to normal people, I am better than them, but compared to other successful people, I am nothing. I am just a tycoon in love.

After many events, has your perspective on life changed?

- I see many things change. I find joy in sadness, gain in loss. We will learn how to go through life from youth, middle age to old age, each age has its own beauty. Therefore, we should look for positive things to enjoy life.

At any time, we should live fully with our joy. I am not afraid of aging, I am only afraid of being ugly because my face has more and more wrinkles, so I live positively to always look younger than my age.

With my children, I also changed the way I educated them. Instead of threatening them, I will be more understanding and gentle.

"I like pure Vietnamese women"

You divorced your ex after more than 10 years together. Has your perspective on love and happiness changed now?

- In marriage, when coming together with love, there is no right or wrong. Each stage, each period, each age, the feeling of love is different.

My ex-wife and I are 18 years apart, and we are psychologically and physically different. Maybe we were only compatible for the first 10 years. After that, we found that we were not compatible, so it was normal for us to break up.

Sometimes, divorce is good for both of us, there is nothing to be sad about. Our duty is to take good care of our children. We have our own lives, do not bother each other, only contact when there is a common problem of the children.

How is your life after the breakup?

- After the divorce, my ex-wife took care of the two older children and my youngest daughter stayed with me. My two older daughters are studying at the Vietnam National Academy of Music, and my youngest just finished 6th grade. I find my life very happy and peaceful.

We broke up peacefully and civilly so the children did not have to witness any arguments or fights. Maybe, deep down, they were sad but then they calmed down because their parents were always there.

Recently, the children also said, "If you don't love each other anymore, you should find a new love."

Taking care of your 12 year old daughter alone, do you find it difficult?

- I don't have to take care of my child, I just remind him to eat and sleep on time because he is very independent and self-motivated. Sometimes, he even takes care of his father. He often reminds him to eat and fold the blanket for him.

I am a person who can be gentle and firm at times. At home, I set times for my children to play with their phones and go to bed. I encourage them to eat at home rather than drink soft drinks or eat fast food.

My children still share with me many private things in life, their friendships and more than friendships. They all know how to love their family, that is my greatest joy.

At nearly 60 years old, does Viet Hoan still love like he did when he was young?

- I am a romantic person so when I fall in love I will be very romantic (laughs). If I am lucky enough to meet the right person, I will get married again.

Nowadays, with the development of information technology, social networks and modern devices, many people prefer to live independently rather than live as a couple or with a family.

I still crave for complete and full happiness, but to find someone to share with me and go with me on the long road is a bit difficult.

What kind of personality would a woman have that would catch Viet Hoan's eye?

- I like a pure Vietnamese woman, traditional, like my mother and sister. That person will put family happiness above personal interests, they also know how to balance family work and society.

What is your greatest joy now?

- My greatest joy is music, taking care of the garden. My greatest love is my children.

How is your schedule on days off?

- I wake up at 6am and do some exercise. At 7am, I call my youngest daughter and get her ready for school. Then I help the gardeners clean up and take care of the hills. On my free days, I join the Hanoi Artists Club in playing Pickleball.

Singer Viet Hoan was born in 1966 in Thai Binh, in a family with parents who were cai luong artists. At the age of 18, he won first prize in the provincial solo singing competition.

He used to work at the Hai Phong City Police Art Troupe, Hai Phong Song and Dance Troupe, and Vietnam Light Music and Dance Theater.

Currently, he works at Voice of Vietnam Radio. He is famous for his red music, collaborating with Trong Tan and Dang Duong to form the red music trio.
