NTO - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets with leaders of countries on the occasion of the Conference to celebrate 50 years of ASEAN relations

According to the special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on December 17, in the capital city of Tokyo, Japan, on the occasion of attending the Summit to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan relations, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had meetings with the Prime Minister of Japan, the Prime Minister of Thailand, the President of the Philippines, the King of Brunei, and the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Following the talks between the two leaders on the afternoon of December 16, meeting Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio again within the framework of the Conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed that Japan pay attention to and support Vietnam in surveying, building, and providing new-generation ODA capital for digital infrastructure construction projects, green transformation, and large-scale strategic infrastructure development in Vietnam with higher incentives, simpler and more flexible procedures.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also proposed promoting cooperation in training high-quality human resources for Vietnam, including increasing the number of Vietnamese workers coming to Japan to work; promptly simplifying visa procedures, aiming to exempt visas for Vietnamese people entering Japan.

Prime Minister Kishida expressed his delight at the success of the high-level talks on December 16; affirmed that he highly valued the proposals of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and would direct agencies to carefully study Vietnam's proposals.

* Meeting with Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, the two sides agreed to coordinate effectively in implementing the Action Program to implement the Vietnam - Thailand Enhanced Strategic Partnership for the 2022 - 2027 period, soon bringing trade turnover to the target of 25 billion USD.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister of Thailand agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas where both sides have potential and strengths; focus on implementing the “Three Connectivity” initiative, focusing on areas such as digital transformation, green transformation and circular economy ; and strive to bring the bilateral relationship to new heights.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen defense and security cooperation and exchange information in the fight against cross-border crimes.

The Prime Minister asked Thailand to share its experience in tourism development and coordinate in building cooperation programs connecting three and four countries in this field.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin affirmed that Vietnam is one of Thailand's important partners in the region and the two sides still have much potential to enhance cooperation in the future; said that he will officially visit Vietnam in 2024 and co-chair the 4th Joint Cabinet Meeting between the two countries, at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The two Prime Ministers also agreed to strengthen solidarity and unity within ASEAN; promote Mekong Sub-region cooperation; support ASEAN's common stance on the East Sea issue as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern.

* At the meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the two leaders agreed to effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms and strengthen cooperation in areas where both sides have potential and strengths, such as agriculture, including rice production, to ensure food security.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Philippine President also affirmed to continue maintaining cooperation on global issues such as climate change response and regional issues, including the East Sea issue.

The President of the Philippines expressed his pleasure to visit Vietnam in 2024 to discuss directions to further strengthen the Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

* At the meeting and brief exchange with Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, the two sides appreciated the positive developments of the Comprehensive Partnership between Vietnam and Brunei.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides continue to coordinate closely to effectively implement the Action Program to implement the Comprehensive Partnership for the 2023-2027 period and the results and agreements reached during the Prime Minister's official visit to Brunei (February 2023).

The Sultan of Brunei supports measures to enhance cooperation between the two countries and affirmed that he will soon visit Vietnam at a suitable time in 2024.

* At the meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the two sides agreed that the Vietnam - Malaysia Strategic Partnership is developing very positively, especially having organized many practical activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1973 - 2023).

The Malaysian Prime Minister expressed his respect and admiration for President Ho Chi Minh; thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for presenting some of President Ho Chi Minh's works and for translating some of President Ho Chi Minh's poems into Malay.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said he will present the Malaysian Prime Minister with a book by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Vietnam's foreign policy, defense, security and development.

The two sides affirmed to continue to closely coordinate to effectively implement agreements of high-ranking leaders, including the results of the official visit to Vietnam by the Malaysian Prime Minister (July 2023); increase contacts and exchanges of delegations at high and all levels; soon organize the 4th Joint Committee on Trade meeting to discuss specific measures to promote bilateral trade development in a balanced direction, facilitate import and export, remove trade barriers; effectively exploit the cooperation potential between the two countries, including agriculture, production, processing of agricultural products, food, finance, banking, etc.

The two leaders also agreed to strengthen cooperation in new areas such as digital transformation, clean energy, green economy, circulation, etc., creating a favorable environment for businesses and investors of the two countries and attracting high-tech investors from other countries.

On this occasion, the Malaysian Prime Minister thanked the Vietnamese Government for supporting the evacuation of Malaysian citizens stranded in Myanmar, and proposed maintaining a hotline between the two Prime Ministers and the two Foreign Ministries to resolve important issues.
