( Quang Ngai Newspaper) - To improve the efficiency of using locally available food sources and develop the beef cattle industry, Truong Anh Thu Company Limited has cooperated with Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry to implement a model of raising crossbred beef cattle using complete fermented mixed feed and pelleted concentrate feed.
This model uses TMR (complete mixed feed) and FTMR (complete fermented mixed feed) technology. TMR technology is an improvement in the way cows are fed based on the even mixing of roughage and concentrates according to the calculated ration, ensuring that cows are provided with adequate and balanced nutrients. Thereby, improving productivity and economic efficiency in cattle farming.
With FTMR, TMR feed is essentially fermented to extend its shelf life (after 2-3 weeks of incubation, the storage period lasts 3-6 months). For mixed feed, the production materials include: VA06 grass, corn biomass grown at the enterprise's facility and purchased from farmers. As for pellet feed, the materials include brewer's dregs, soybean dregs, dry cassava dregs, rice bran/corn, straw or peanut shells, mineral-vitamin premix, and other additives.

The model was implemented at the farm of Truong Anh Thu Company Limited, in Nghia Thang Commune (Tu Nghia), with 30 cows participating, divided into 3 groups, fed 3 types of feed: TMR, FTMR and pellets (10 cows/each type of feed). In addition, it was implemented at 3 small farms of households: Tran Van Doi, Nguyen Van Sang (Nghia Thang Commune) and Nguyen Van Them household in Hanh Thuan Commune (Nghia Hanh).
The number of participating cows was 36 (12 cows per household). In each household, the cows were divided into 3 groups (4 cows/group), each group was fed one of 3 types of feed: TMR, FTMR and pellets; the breed was BBB crossbred and raised continuously from 7 to 21 months of age.
For TMR and FTMR feed, the model supports 30% of feed ingredients (both concentrates and roughage) in the TMR and FTMR mixture, and the enterprise covers the remaining 70%. For pellet feed, the model supports 30% of raw feed ingredients for pellet feed production, and the enterprise covers 70% of raw feed ingredients in pellet feed and 100% of green roughage for cows.
Mr. Le Van Thi, a technical officer monitoring the model, said that after using TMR and FTMR feed, the herd of cows had a clear change compared to regular feed. FTMR feed is fermented, so it improves the enzyme system in the cow's intestines better, the feed consumption index is also higher, so the cows absorb a large amount of nutrients in the feed; develop better, and have smoother fur. If we can proactively source this feed in the long term, it will bring about effective farming for both large farms and large-scale households.
The model results show that, in the period of 7 - 12 months of age, the weight of cows fed TMR feed reached 750 - 850g/head/day; cows fed FMTR feed reached 850 - 880g/head/day; cows fed pellet feed reached 850 - 970g/head/day. In the period of 13 - 18 months of age, the weight of cows fed TMR feed reached 800 - 1,080g/head/day; cows fed FMTR feed reached 900 - 1,050g/head/day; meanwhile, in cows fed pellet feed reached 1,100 - 1,160g/head/day. In the period of 19 - 21 months of age, the weight of cows fed TMR feed reached 1,010 - 1,100g/head/day; For cows fed FMTR feed, it reached 1,090 - 1,140g/head/day; while for cows fed pellet feed, it reached 1,250 - 1,330g/head/day.
Mr. Tran Van Doi, a household participating in the model, shared that using the cow feed provided by Truong An Thu Company Limited has brought very good results. The feed has 3 different stages, in which the fattening stage is the final stage with the highest efficiency. The cows do not leave any leftover feed, the cow's skin and hair are smooth, I am satisfied with this type of feed.
The application of intensive beef cattle farming processes using TMR, FTMR and pelleted concentrate feeds contributes to improving productivity and increasing economic efficiency compared to traditional farming methods. The application of FTMR and pelleted concentrate feeds also provides proactive feed sources for cattle during the rainy season, creating conditions for the development of concentrated beef cattle farming in the province.
