Raising specialty sour fish in a 10-hectare brackish water lagoon, a farmer from Binh Dinh was awarded a Certificate of Merit.

Thanks to his diligence and ability to find new directions in production and business, Mr. Ngo Thanh Minh (born in 1960), a farmer member of An My village, My Cat commune, Phu My district, Binh Dinh province, has had a stable income for many years.

Mr. Minh said: In 2018, I rented 2 hectares of pond and bought 10,000 sour fish fry to raise. After nearly 8 months of care, I harvested nearly 20 tons of specialty sour fish, selling them for a profit of 400 million VND. From this success, in the following years I continued to maintain the above farming method.

In addition, he also rented another 10 hectares of pond to raise natural sour fish. According to Mr. Minh, raising natural sour fish is to let the fish eat aquatic products and creatures in the pond.

Raising sour fish this way requires little investment capital but the fish grow slowly, the harvest time will be longer, however the fish meat will be more delicious.

Especially with this farming method, his sour fish product has been ranked 3-star OCOP by the Phu My District OCOP Product Evaluation and Classification Council in 2022.

After many years of producing salt in the ground, in 2014, Mr. Minh was taken by Binh Dinh Pharmaceutical - Medical Equipment Joint Stock Company to visit the salt production model with tarpaulin lining in Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan provinces.

When he returned, he used 2 hectares of land rented from the Commune People's Committee to produce salt under tarpaulin. This production method helps reduce labor by 30%, salt output increases by 25% and product value also increases by over 20% compared to salt production on land without tarpaulin.

After the initial success of producing salt for lining, Mr. Minh rented 6 more hectares of rice fields in My Thanh commune to produce salt for lining, each year he earns over 600 tons of salt.

In addition to salt production, he also buys tarpaulins to sell to salt producers and provides salt consumption services for local people and neighboring communes.

Currently, more than 200 local households produce tarpaulin-lined salt using his method. He buys and resells all the salt produced by the people to companies in and outside the province. Thanks to this, salt producers do not have to worry about output.

With the production and business model of raising specialty sour fish and making salt with tarpaulin lining for high yield and good economic efficiency as above, each year Mr. Minh's family earns more than 700 million VND in profit. For many consecutive years, Mr. Minh has been commended by the District and Commune Farmers' Association for his achievements as a good farmer in production and business.

Recently, he was awarded a certificate of merit by the Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee for his outstanding achievements in the movement of Good Farmers and Businessmen in the period 2021 - 2023.
