“When representatives of the British government have tried to go door-to-door in the United States in the past, it has not ended well for them. This past week marked the 243rd anniversary of the British surrender at the Battle of Yorktown, a military victory that ensured America’s political independence from Britain,” reads a letter sent by Mr. Trump’s legal team to the US Federal Election Commission in Washington on October 22. According to the Guardian, the letter goes on to demand an immediate investigation into “blatant foreign interference” in the White House election, in the form of “clearly illegal foreign contributions made by the British Labour Party” and accepted by Ms. Harris’s campaign. Mr. Trump’s team refers to a Washington Post article that said the ruling party in Britain and the US vice president’s campaign had consulted with each other. They also referred to other reports of contacts between senior members of the Labour Party, including Downing Street communications director Matthew Doyle and the prime minister's chief of staff Morgan McSweeney, and the Harris campaign. The complaint also cites a message posted on LinkedIn last week by Sofia Patel, the Labour Party's chief of staff, that 100 current and former employees were sent to the US to help campaign for Harris. While the US allows foreign nationals to volunteer to help with election campaigns in the country, Trump's team insists that such foreign workers "must not be paid, spend money, direct or control the activities of US campaigns." Republicans and billionaire Elon Musk, who supports Trump, have accused the Harris campaign of "fumbling for foreign influence to advance their radical message because they know they cannot win the support of the American people." London has yet to comment on the developments. However, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with former US President Trump during a visit to New York last month, declaring that he “believes very much in personal relationships on the international stage”.Vietnamnet.vn
