Trump opened his speech in Dayton, Ohio, on March 16 by thanking his supporters who are in jail for rioting at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, when they tried to stop the certification of President Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election. Trump greeted them and called them "patriots" and "hostages," according to Reuters.
Mr. Trump also repeated his assertion that his 2020 election loss to President Biden was due to election fraud, without providing any concrete evidence.

Also in his speech, Mr. Trump predicted that if he did not win the US presidential election on November 5, American democracy would end, according to Reuters.
"If we don't win this election, I don't think you'll ever have another election in this country," Mr. Trump told supporters.
In the middle of a speech about tariffs on imported cars and foreign competition for the US auto industry, Mr. Trump emphasized: "If I don't win, it will be a bloodbath for the whole country."
When asked what Mr. Trump meant, his campaign pointed to a post on social media site X by a journalist for The New York Times . According to the post, Mr. Trump’s “bloodbath” reference was made in the context of a discussion about the auto industry and the U.S. economy .
Both Biden and Trump have reached the finish line and will compete again for the US presidency.
Asked to respond to Trump's "bloodbath" remarks, Biden campaign spokesman James Singer condemned Trump's "extremism," "desire for revenge" and "threats of political violence."
A recent USA Today/Suffolk University (Boston, Massachusetts) poll found that Trump is leading President Biden by a small margin, with 40% of respondents favoring Trump, while 38% favor Biden.
