Open the way – open the way out of poverty
In the past, many villages in communes such as Cao Tan, Co Linh, Cong Bang, Giao Hieu, An Thang, Bang Thanh... were almost isolated during the rainy season due to slippery and muddy dirt roads. People had to carry sacks of rice, bundles of firewood or pigs and chickens to the market to sell, each trip to the market was a "mountain crossing". This situation not only hindered production development but also made health care,education and social security work face many difficulties.
Since the implementation of national target programs, especially the New Rural Development Program, Pac Nam district has prioritized capital investment in rural transportation. Hundreds of kilometers of commune and village roads have been concreted; intra-field and residential roads have been expanded, creating favorable conditions for motorbikes and small cars to travel conveniently all year round.
From 2020 to now, the district has invested more than 600 billion VND in traffic infrastructure with more than 260 large and small projects. Up to now, 65 inter-commune roads with a total length of more than 226km have been asphalted; the rate of roads from the commune center to the village center has been hardened to over 90%; 100% of villages can travel by motorbike to the village center. Particularly, provincial road 258 passing through the area with a length of more than 35km has been invested in upgrading, repairing and expanding. Some new roads planned to open to connect other districts in the province and connect inter-regionally with districts of Tuyen Quang province and Cao Bang province are also being actively coordinated by the district with the provincial departments and branches to advise the Provincial People's Committee to deploy in the coming time.
Identifying that rural transport development is not an individual task, the district has mobilized the participation of the entire political system and the people. In addition to the state budget, the district mobilized people to donate land, contribute working days and materials to open roads. The spirit of "State and People Working Together" has spread strongly, helping many projects to be completed on schedule, saving costs and improving sustainability. Basically, the inter-village and intra-village roads that have been solidified and expanded are all due to people donating land and contributing working days to implement. In many villages, people have proactively proposed to open new inter-village roads and roads to production areas and are ready to join hands to implement. That not only demonstrates the spirit of community responsibility but also affirms people's trust in the correct policies of the Party and State.
Creating momentum for socio-economic development
According to the assessment of comrade Dao Duy Hung, Chairman of Pac Nam District People's Committee: The new roads opened in recent years have truly been an opportunity for economic development for people in the highlands. The transportation of agricultural products such as rice, corn, pigs, chickens, cardamom, honey, buffaloes, cows, etc. has become easier, prices are more stable because traders are no longer forcing prices. Students can go to school conveniently, medical staff can easily access households to provide primary health care. National defense and security work has also been strengthened when traffic is smooth. Traffic development has created momentum for socio-economic development, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction in the locality.
In the coming period, Pac Nam district will continue to integrate capital sources such as the National Target Program on New Rural Development, Sustainable Poverty Reduction, Development of Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas, etc. to invest in developing and expanding the rural transport system. The district prioritizes opening traffic routes connecting commodity production areas and potential eco-tourism areas to promote economic development and promote the potential of agriculture and forestry in the district. In addition, the district also focuses on maintaining and repairing the existing road system to ensure traffic safety, while improving the quality of design and construction of rural transport works suitable to the terrain characteristics.
It can be seen that, with the high determination of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, Pac Nam district is gradually changing the face of the countryside from the roads.
